That won't happen. First ISIS controlled territor is deminishing in the Levant (Syria & Iraq) but rapidly expanding in Yemen and almost all of North Africa.

The only way to rid the region if ISIS is to strengthen the current dictatorships in Syria, Turkey and Iran. All of which are off the table with the exception of Turkey which is distancing itself from the US currently.

The best thing for the US strategy in the ME in my opinion would be to convince Turkey, Iran, Iraq and Syria to allow a true Krurdish nation. The US could place a division asset there to help stabilize the region. We all know that will never happen.

So next safest bet is to let Assad and Russia flatten ISIS. They have no public outcry like we do when they use total war as a tactic.

I'm trying to find something in this post that's correct and having a real hard time.

The answer is to get off petroleum other than what we can produce, then we can go back to not caring what they do to each other

Just curious, where would you self identify on the political spectrum? I've seen posts of yours that are a bit of everything.

You don't snuff out ISIS without getting boots on the ground, taking the battle to them directly, the old fashioned way.

The solution really is simple. The problem is that process is long, tedious, costly, and unpopular

It's probably impossible to snuff out ISIS/extremist terrorist factions without permanent occupation and colonization. Especially when the internet makes decentralization so simple.

Why would we want to do that if it is so beneficial to the capitalist war machine?

You can't fight ideology and beliefs with war. It only pushes them even more to the extreme than now. They are taught from a young age to hate the west, so you think going in and killing more will just eradicate this issue? No it will exacerbate the problem. But unfortunately we have a bunch of war monger's around here.

War is not sanitary, war cannot be managed by Multi-culturalists, Isolationists, or Bleeding Hearts...war making must focus on absolutes, capitulation or annihilation. ISIS has chosen their path, systematic extermination.

Then answer my fricking question rather than pointing out in your opinion how others are wrong.

If not by war or physical means, then how do we stop Isis?

Don't fight them. Don't engage with them. Don't acknowledge them; just ignore them. They have an unsustainable military, economic, and foreign policy model. They will collapse on their own even with zero intervention by us. In fact, they rely on our intervention to survive.

I typically take each issue on its own merits, so it would depend on the issue. I favor common sense over political affiliation.

I'm a registered Republican that's never voted for a Republican for president. I've never voted for a Democrat for anything, but there are a select few that would get my vote given the opportunity.

frick NO!!!

The losers won't even have the common courtesy to die in the crash. They will then sit around in an ISIS prison for a few years(while making propaganda videos for ISIS) then come home and frick up our government even worse.

I don't necessarily have answer because we've fricked ourselves so bad in the Middle East it's ridiculous. There is no easy answer, but if I had to try and think of one it would probably start with withdrawing our troops. You then find the money suppliers to ISIS and go after them. That's the real driving force behind the growth besides the hate for the West. Stop toppling dictators and leaders in the Middle East and putting our own "democratic" picks to lead the country. You can't force a people to become a democracy/republic, no more than you can force someone not to be a drug addict. The individual has to decide for themselves what they want.

You cut down the numbers of the ones emboldened enough to take up arms and enjoy the relative peace until they repopulate and regroup. Wash rinse repeat.

This idea that terrorism will ever be completely eradicated is folly. They will not disappear if left alone. They will multiply like cancer cells. There is no ideal answer here. Call me a war monger or whatever. That's the reality. There is no world where ISIS goes away the world lives happily ever after. Something else always sprouts up.
