If true, this really smacks of impropriety on their behalf.

records....making it their own private property

I'm no lawyer. But it seems that makes them liable to produce those records when subpoenaed. It seems to make info easier to get in investigations.

Anyone?

Since "elected" officials are hired and paid by the people, said officials have no right to withhold documents related to their job.

It's already hard enough to get rid of the crooks in D.C., they don't need anymore laws to protect themselves from the people who hired them.

You might want to edit your title.

Whatever the facts behind this, it's not a law that was passed. It was an internal rules change.

IF true this is bullshite but why aren't the Dems screaming about it......oh yeah I know why (IF true).

Any document produced on a Government system is owned by the Government, not the person producing the document......that's the law.
