Troubling. I assume CNN's lawyers are examining GA § 16-8-16 Theft by extortion. If CNN constructively obtained the gif-maker's IP...it's a GA crime if they threatened to ‘Disseminate any information tending to subject any person to hatred, contempt, or ridicule....’” he wrote.

They don't need his IP if he publicly released identifying information on Reddit, which they then used with Facebook to track him down.

(he did)

Or they may have realized after the fact that they didn't have cause to gain his IP and have created a fake backstory to cover their tracks.

I've seen people do that before

You know why Ted would be a great Supreme Court Justice? He somehow knows Georgia Law front and back. You tell me 1 other member of congress that is not from Georgia or worked in Georgia Law that would have known that.

Maybe, and the only way we'll ever know is if the guy sues CNN and gets to discovery.

But he won't.

Two problems :

(1) they didn't constructively obtain his IP address. He left enough of a trail for them to track him down through social media

(2) read the fricking statute;

A person commits the theft of extortion when he unlawfully obtains property of or from another person by threatening to......

There was NO property obtained! This statute is not relevant or applicable! And I'd argue ted on that point all day everyday.

So just another typical bamarep fail
