Why can we not just abolish the ACA? Why does it have to be replaced immediately with something else? We will just go back to what we had in place before......what am I missing?

Because millions of people, mostly poor, will lose health insurance. I don't think Republicans care about that, but they do care about the political backlash they could face over it.

If they don't replace it with something better then it's political suicide.

That what was before didn't work

I'm in the "healthcare ain't a right" side but everyone can forget 'before'.....it is what it is now

The left has the advantage here in a couple of ways.

If you just blow it up then there is a backlash of whiners (some justified) that you are "leaving people to die in the street".

Also, we don't have 60 votes to simply repeal.

This is the problem with these gov programs. Once you give you cannot take away even if you couldn't afford to give in the first place.

They know this and that's how they consolidate their power by essentially purchasing voting blocks with our money (and theirs). They use our money to defeat us.

That's the most frustrating part for me. Notice, they never tell you that this is the last program or cause they want to do battle over. They need to battle us forever to keep their voters enthused. If you think about it that way, it's really scary.

ETA: I was typing "leaving people to die in the street" while The Spleen was typing nearly the same thing. Called it.

I don't think many people relying on ACA voted trump/republican anyway. Why vote for trump when he said he was going to repeal it?

Health insurance is not health care.

They are inundating the ER's around the country with Obamacare. It makes no difference. Takers will take.

This is the main problem with govt. Once it exists, no matter how stupid it is, we feel like it will always have to exist

It's not only about Trump. There are House and Senate republicans in vulnerable positions. The GOP majority in the Senate is razor thin, and the map for 2018 favors them. They could realistically pick up a few seats. That would be in jeopardy with a full repeal with no replacement.

The medical and pharma industries have bought as many lawmakers as any industry has. The government is paying for the healthcare of tens of millions of people. That translates into a cash cow of money that goes to those medical and pharma giant executives. Businessmen getting paid; lawmakers getting paid. EASY MONEY.

I believe that is being debated in Washington now. I would assume it has something to do with the majority of Americans who elected these reps and senators not being on board with a repeal, and being rather vocal about it.

I don't understand why we cant have transparency in pricing for healthcare. It is my biggest gripe about the healthcare system. Try to pay after a doctor visit, and they cant even tell you how much it will be? A procedure or treatment plan can be prescribed, but with no regards, or information, as to the cost. Maybe I would be on board with more of the free market approach if I could be told how much things cost prior to, or immediately following, the service provided. Not in the mail 3-4 weeks later.

All Obama did was cut down the tree leaning over the road knowing full well he would leave it to someone else to clear the tree from the road once it was down.

There's more to it than that. It's not simply an issue of "poor people have insurance, and government wants to take it away".

It's about how those people now have insurance and finding a better method that doesn't completely shaft the middle class with worse coverage for double and triple the premiums.

Logic over emotion.
