So does Hagel have the authority to release a prisoner? I know its within the Presidents powers, but I highly doubt it is within Hagels.
If Hagel made the call, then Congress should hold hearings and find him in violation of the law... I guarantee if he is prosecuted, he will sing like a bird.

Look up "fall guy" in the dictionary and you'll find a picture of Hagel.
Everyone involved knew he wasn't that smart and would be a hand-puppet for whatever Obama wanted, which is why many on the right didn't want him approved as SecDef to begin with.
This administration wouldn't give Hagel the authority to do anything other than make coffee without WH approval. And given how dim he is, I bet he could frick that up on his own.

The president has already accepted responsibility and said he stands behind his decision.

I believe what they may be spinning is that they went on Hagel's recommendation. Also, it was Hagel who pushed the dire illness angle.

Don't hold your breath. He's a former Senator, member of 'the club.' They don't go after their own very often.

Either the President authorized this, which it seems that he can under the Constitution, or Hagel did, which he cannot do.
You can't have it both ways. If they are now trying to say that Hagel made the call, then he should be prosecuted.

You have a strange way of thinking. What do you think the president is supposed to do? Lead, run the country, and be commander in chief?
Hell no, he has to campaign. Where would he ever find time to do all those other things.

What they may be doing is attempting to mitigate the blame a bit by putting the impetus for the move on Hagel. Pointing a finger is part of their political strategy and is well within their wheelhouse.

Apparently Dems love to tell that little story over dinner parties.

Rep. Ron Dellums was an openly Socialist member of the House in the 70s, 80s, and 90s, and a one-time House Armed Services Committee chair.
Both he and his chief of staff, Carlottia Scott, were very close with the Marxist government of Grenada. Letters between that government and Scott were found in the papers when the government were overthown and there is proof of collusion between Dellums, Scott, and the Grenada government in trying to
