Hagan a no-show at final debate?

Amid ongoing questions about her family’s apparent stimulus benefits, numerous Armed Services Committee hearing absences, and Ebola flip-flops, Sen. Kay Hagan (D-NC) did not show up at the fourth and final debate in the U.S. Senate race Tuesday evening.
With Hagan absent and nothing but an empty chair to face her opponent, North Carolina House Speaker Thom Tillis spent an hour taking questions from two local reporters and voters.
Can't wait to see this get the same media coverage as Scott delaying the Florida debate.

An empty chair just like her master.

Exposure only hurts her, probably a smart move, and expected IMO.

I'm sure the daily show will have a scathing skit about this.

Is anybody going to report it though?

I've been wondering why the frick is NC so staunchly democrat? I live in VA, and at least we can blame it on NOVA, Richmond and Hampton Roads

Everyone has known she wouldn't be there for several months now. This is not much of a story, and I'm anti-Hagan. There were three debates for the NC Senate seat in 2010 and she participated in the standard three debates already this year. It's not like she just didn't show up. Everyone in the state with eyes and ears knew a long time ago she declined the fourth debate. Had she planned to be there and then didn't show up because she was feeling the pressure - now that would have been a major story and a coup for Tillis. As it went down, I doubt it will have any effect either way.

Was Clint Eastwood there? ( Empty Chair )
Pathetic when you skip out on a planned debate, she must have gotten news of an October surprise coming from the Tillis camp during the debate.
This should be her end. I don't see how a real candidate can skip a planned debate and not take a hit in the polls.

Years ago the state embarked on a concerted effort to recruit high-tech companies to the Research Triangle. The strategy worked and educated, highly intelligent people from all over the country moved to North Carolina. Pretty soon the average IQ in the state inched past 100 and the rest was history.

As I posted before you wrote this, she did not "skip out" on the debate because she turned down the invitation to participate back in July. In most instances, the standard number of debates agreed to for Senate seats is three, and she participated in three debates with Tillis already, as planned. Tonight in Florida, Crist and Scott had their third and final debate. Here in NH tonight, Brown and Shaheen had their first of three scheduled debates. Ernst and Braley had three debates in Iowa. She never intended to be there and everyone in the state of North Carolina knew that. The sponsors proceeded without her and it gave Tillis a chance to have an hour of free television time to himself. Should she have agreed back in July to a fourth debate? I think she should have, especially since at that time she was perceived to be in a weaker position than she is now. But she didn't.
Incumbents , no matter which party, always prefer fewer debates than their challengers. That Politics 101.

It's a combination of the two big metro areas plus some of the eastern swamp areas (think Mississippi Delta country - like Pitt County, NC and New Hanover County, NC and near those places), Asheville, and then some of the other dirt poor, traditionally Democratic Appalachian counties. That's enough of a coalition to keep the Democratic Party relatively strong in NC compared to some of its neighbors.

So glad I am registered to vote in North Carolina.
ETA: Thanks for the clarification NHTIGER. But I am still glad to be registered in NC.

If anybody but Tillis was running against Hagan, he'd be wiping the floor with her.
Unfortunately, he's about as popular as sand in Vaseline. I'll be voting 3rd party or writing in a name.
