Whatever happened to the old saying "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me" ?
We live in a world full of pussies.
This is another example of an unlevel playing field that the GOP has to compete on.
DEMs can say anything without effect. The entire population of Republicans can be branded by one untoward remark by someone identified with the party.
Sure - it was a stupid thing to say. But what was the context of the statement? Was the context degrading? or was it a simple slip of the tongue back to earlier times when all kinds of 'colorful' words were used.
I grew up in such a culture. I heard the n-word regularly, with no degrading intent - just a description which was congruent to 'colored' - Then the blacks wanted to be called black, and I immediately adjusted. Now they want to be called "african american" which I refuse to utter in normal conversation.
I saw a NatGeo program a while back where the narrator referred to some ancient inhabitants of sub-Saharan Africa as "african americans."
What a crock of chit.
