I honestly wonder if these confirmation hearings are more for the political blowhard senators to hog the spotlight and make political speeches rather than to vet the nominee.

I read that there's some sort of policy that no one can hold an appointed position at the pentagon until 7 years after they leave the military

That's exactly what they're for. The decision on whether the candidates would be approved happened long ago. This is pure political theater.

that can be waived, which is why i said "if they deny his waiver"

if he had no issues with the timelines, he couldn't be blocked b/c of Reid's nuclear option

but they CAN filibuster the waiver issue
