Fox News Ratings Have Been Disastrous Since O'Reilly's Departure

When the Fox News Channel fired cable news giant Bill O’Reilly in April, reports surfaced revealing Fox News’ owner, the Murdoch family, wanting to move the network in a different direction. Out with the old guard, in with the new. More hosts similar to Megyn Kelly, who is now at NBC News, fewer like the ones who built the network from the ground up, including O’Reilly.
About one month later, Fox News has a completely different news lineup, and the results thus far have been nothing short of disastrous.
On Thursday, TV Newser reported Fox News, which once dominated its competitors in virtually every timeslot, is now losing across the board in the key 25-54 demographic.
The results are most notable in primetime, which used to carry Fox News’ most reliable audience. Now, Fox News is running a distant third to hosts who previously drew audiences half the size of O’Reilly’s.
On Thursday, at the 7 p.m. hour, Fox News’ “The Story,” hosted by Martha MacCallum, lost by more than 100,000 viewers in the 25-54 demographic to CNN’s “OutFront” with Erin Burnett. Chris Matthews’ “Hardball” beat MacCallum by nearly 60,000 viewers.
At 8 p.m., Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight” lost to both CNN’s Anderson Cooper and MSNBC’s “All In” with Chris Hayes.
At 9 p.m., Fox News Channel’s “The Five” was absolutely demolished by Cooper and MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show,” which won the key demographic by more than 200,000 viewers.
Of all the Fox News hosts in primetime, Sean Hannity performed the best, although he still finished third to “CNN Tonight” with Don Lemon and MSNBC’s “The Last Word” with Lawrence O’Donnell.

I have a feeling Hannity won't last much longer. He will either quit or get the O'Reilly treatment. When that happens there will be no more conservatives at Fox, except for perhaps Tucker.
And I think Fox lost a lot of its audience when the audience discerned that they were intentionally trying to move left.

Too bad Fox's top talent couldn't stop harassing women.

Tucker sucks

Yes, I'm sure people miss him screaming and interrupting the people HE invited onto his show.

Hannity sucks more.

Now that tucker is on at 7 I hardly ever see it anymore. During that hour we are normally eating dinner then getting kids ready for bed. I liked the 5 when it came on earlier, but I'm not big on it in the 8pm slot. I used to actually really like Hannity, but the last couple months his show is so cringeworthy.

As if hosts like Maddow and Lemon don't do that?

I heard on the radio this morning that Fox News' rating are actually flat and it is CNN and MSNBC that are attracting new and younger viewers to their programming. Apparently the younger demo is loving the MUH RUSSIANS narrative.
Fox News needs to ditch The Five. That is a completely shitty show for that time slot. Give that time slot to Milo.

quote:yeah from a marketing standpoint what fox has been doing makes little sense. It isn't like liberal Americans are suddenly going to flock to Fox. Unfortunately this is what we've become. CNN has pigeon-holed itself so bad but merely reverting to a semi-decent news organization would destroy their ratings. Fox trying to move left has a similar effect. Americans have become conditioned two news outlets that largely feed their narrative
And I think Fox lost a lot of its audience when the audience discerned that they were intentionally trying to move left.

Maddow
She invites guests with opposing views on her show? Since when? Generally, they are all cheerleaders for her viewpoint on things.

Well, when you lose the top cable news show of all time, I'd imagine a dip.

Failure is always what happens when you cave in to leftist.

The decline of Fox News actually began in 2015 with Megyn Kelly and the start of her feud with Donald Trump. I could be wrong but I think I remember reading that the network's ratings were on the decline throughout 2016. Now that they are kicking off their most famous and best conservative talent, those ratings have begun to nosedive.

Pimp's First Postulate ( repeated here since 2003)- Every American Institution or organization drifts Leftward over time. With very few exceptions (only if the organization's organizing principle is resistance to Progressivism and membership is limited to those who want to preserve that culture).
In ten years Fox will be no different that MSNBC or CNN. It cannot sustain the combination of cultural pressure and poor management. Some day you will watch Fox and they will be laughing that old, white, racist, sexist dudes were ever given a format on Fox. They might even issue an apology for once having traditionalists on their network. That's why I always enjoy any expression of public Conservatism in America, because I know it is temporary and fleeting. Progressivism is the constant unrelenting pressure on every organization.Eventually Progressivism will eat it, it's just a matter of time because Progressivism is insatiable and nobody is willing to withstand the cultural pressure over time and those who do are eventually purged.

I don't like them either.
Is that how this works? If I dislike O'Reilly, I'm required to like Maddow? I can't hope for both of them to be shipped off to a deserted island somewhere?

It's easier to be the network railing against the White House. MSNBC's ratings are up.
