The US carmaker said a planned factory in the central state of Guanajuato will build engines and transmissions, while another in the northern city of Chihuahua will make car parts for use by Ford factories in the United States, South America and Asia.
The two facilities will cost about $2.5 billion and employ some 3,800 people, said Gabriel Lopez, president and CEO of Ford Mexico.
Ford without warning last month canceled plans to build a $1.6 billion project in San Luis Potosi.
It is one of several American companies coming under pressure from US President Donald Trump, who has offered inducements to keep some US manufacturers in the United States, and threatened others with punishing tariffs if they go.
Ford, which has been operating in Mexico for about 90 years, currently employs around 9,000 workers in Mexico, according to Lopez.

Helping to elevate and build Mexico is a solid plan for the US and it beats the shite out of sending things over sees.

"Thousands of jobs lost to Mexico under Trump administration" using Trump's logic.

The mental gymnastics to spin this (and god knows what else) positively around here are going to be breathtaking over the next 1-2 years.

Why should I care about Mexico's job market, if I live in the US? I mean, sure, I don't want rampant instability south of the border but short of that, are the Mexican's wringing their hands over whether or not workers in the US are prospering?
This whole 'flat-world-interconnected-global-economy' nonsense promoted by the likes of Thomas Friedman is just so much horse shite disguised as the inevitability of a new globalism.
(These 'thinkers' trot out new information and communications technologies to demonstrate that 'things are different, now'. As if in all of human history, societies, cultures, states, and countries have never ever been interconnected in terms of information, communication, or economic interests. But, with the state of education -especially here in the US- perhaps there isn't enough collective knowledge of history to even grasp this simple and obvious truth...)
Until we get to that perfect world where there are no wars, everyone loves one another as complete equals, there are no countries, and everyone works for the benefit of all, placing the interests of one's country first is beyond practical: it's paramount.
