For anyone in favor of taking the side of removing Confederate symbols...

This is an honest question.
Do you also support removing Washington, Jefferson etc...
What about the U.S. Flag?
If you are against the Confederacy symbols but for the others can you explain how you can justify one in your mind but not the other?

i have a very honest question for you. why does the south hang on to a horrible part of our history? we were in the wrong and lost but yet we still celebrate it.

I like the founders and the flag. I don't like the national anthem. It's a crappy piece of music compared to Russia and France.

I only favor removing them from Government property.
I favor that because it is not a recognized sovereign nation, and hasn't been for 150 years.
Washington, Jefferson, the US falg, etc., are are representatives of the United States of America, which is the legitimate, sovereign nation of which I'm a citizen.

You're confused.

This is fair.

Because we are proud that the Southern states took a stand and pushed back against the Federal government.
And I am proud of my family for answering the call.

Well this isn't going how you planned

If the US had lost the Revolution I would still be proud of my ancestor whom was a body guard for George Washington. I am still proud of my great grandfather whom fought for the south. I would not denounce any of my family for serving.

Because apparently, the South has been ambushed by the Cold War of Northern Aggression.

MLK and a host of other monuments aren't sovereign countries. Should they be removed also?

The overwhelming majority of the people who fought for the Confederacy were not slave owners or fighting to keep slaves.

You should probably figure out what soverign means. And country. Also basic reading comprehension skills.

I think we should have more monuments, more parks, more nods to the complicated history that made us. We should acknowledge everything in my view.

Removing, as if they were never there? No.
But I also don't object, in theory, to taking confederate symbols out of places of public prominence and moving them to a setting that recognizes their historic significance and is available to the public and protected.
My basis for this isn't that we should whitewash anything relating to slavery, it's that maybe we don't need to keep markers of the confederacy around in celebratory fashion. Museums, battlefields, historic sites, etc. seem ripe places for those monuments.

If these statues and symbols were erected in that brief period when the CSA was a sovereign state, then maybe I would see them as having historical value, or as a link to a society that has come and gone.
They weren't, so I don't.
They weren't, so I don't.

Nah. Your haughty lecturing doesn't work as well when you can't spell words correctly.
