For a single mom, making $29k is better than making $69k

quote:

"the single mom is better off earning gross income of $29,000 with $57,327 in net income & benefits than to earn gross income of $69,000 with net income and benefits of $57,045."

For all of the liberals who talk about how hard it is to live on government welfare programs, please provide a rebuttal.

Saw this the other day.

In the early 90's, it was better to be on Welfare in Hawaii than work and make $16/hour. Probably higher than that now.

I need to go out and get myself a couple of illegitimate kids. Being responsible sucks.

This is true! I have a nurse that actually requested a cut in pay. I thought she was crazy at first, but then we looked at the numbers and she was right. Under Obamacouln'tcarless it'll be even worse. She will now have to pay taxes on the insurance I provide her. She will become "richer" on paper and be subject to even fewer benefits and more taxes even though her income has not changed. I will correct this for her somehow, but this is fricking ridiculous. When people are penalized for doing better, the fricking system is broke. And she is far from rich.

You know that no libs will rebut this. Hard data like this is their kryptonite.

Why do people ever get married? Let the husband work and the wife stay at home and get benefits!!!!

All I ask is that people keep threads like these floating to the top by bookmarking them and then linking them when some liberal starts talking out the side of their neck about how hard it is to live on welfare.

Think I'll ask the wife if she wants a paper-divorce so she can collect welfare for her and our 3 kids. #ModernAmericanFamily

It seems you just need to learn the magic trick where net income can some how become 3x your gross income...seems easier than alchemy.

Keep custody of one kid yourself. It will allow you to claim head of household status. That is worth more to you than the benefits of a third kid will be to her sionce most tax benefits are based on two kids maximum. If the Bush tax cuts get repealed , then all tax benefits will be limited to two kids. Talk to a CPA to plan your divorce intelligently. You'd be surprised at the opportunities available.

There is an article out there discussing what poverty in the U.S. means. Multiple TVs with cable, A/C/Heat, Oven/Stove,washer/dryer, Microwave, Xbox/Playstation type gaming system, cell phone etc...

People talk about the poor and most assume homeless.

I thought only the evil rich gamed the system?!

they like to toss out the word 'poor' easy enough and yet they don't even want to get into who is more "poor", Mrs. 29k or Mrs. 69k? All they care about is hanging lack of compassion on their GOP strawmen.

In the Obama campaign's "Life of Julia" scenario, a husband was never included. In Obamanation, women wed the federal government. It employs, provides, drives, supplies, protects, raises kids, pays for college, etc.

Thank goodness liberalism has brought women such independence!

My wife's cousin does this. She's been with her boyfriend for about 8 years now. Collects benefits for her 2 kids while they play house. Enrolls them in private schools. Just rented a 1900 square foot house out here (that my wife helped her find) that she then told my wife is "smaller than [they're] used to." (It's larger than our house.)

Funny thing is, you know there's some shame embedded in their farce because she actually uses his last name on her Facebook account as if he's her legal husband.

I have too much respect for my wife and child to live like that. I'm sick of all these low-lives.

re: For a single mom, making $29k is better than making $69k
There is no way that every single mom in this country is taking home the equivalent of $42k+. Some of those programs are capped for a certain number of beneficiaries, and income is not the only stipulation. That data is a best case scenario at each income level. That said, it is useful for pointing out obvious flaws in our system.

I'm not debating the hard data, but how 'bout you provide data for the average aid received for a single mother rather than a hypothetical? That would be better for judging "how hard it is to live on government welfare programs," no?

Yeah, friend of mine's daughter does something similar. She works, has two kids and the father stays there, but isn't married. She gets a paycheck, plus housing, day care, food stamps, energy assistance, and native money as well. The father also works. Their housing portion paid is $1,200/month, and they get $900 in food stamps.
