Fewest workers getting unemployment benefits in 28 years

Great news but it will be overshadowed by muh Russians.

Just 1.9 million people received unemployment insurance benefits at the end of the month, the fewest since 1988. Benefits are available for up to 26 weeks in most states.


Even more engouraging: Averaging over the past four weeks, total unemployment benefit claims are running at the lowest rate since 1974, despite the workforce being 75 percent bigger.

that is good news. but what is the labor participation rate? that is the more telling number.

According to the BLS, April's number was 62.9, down from 63.0 in March. Essentially it's been pretty steady over the past few months. No big swings one way or the other.
