No because of the repeal of essential health benefits from the federal level
And besides maybe allowing for cheaper plans, how will that change the incentives and behaviors enough to increase healthy participation? Again. I was against it, but the mandate was meant for this very reason. With that gone, that's one more incentive that is also gone.

No child born with or that contracts a disease should be excluded from being covered. You are punishing them for being born!
What did the people that have to pay for it getting punished for?

I'm not saying we shouldn't help sick children... I believe the complete opposite. But doing it in the most inefficient and threatening way possible seems stupid to me.

I mean sure there is something to be said for sticking to your guns. I just don't see how we get a stable plan with that untouched (unless you bulk up the mandate, which I do NOT want).

Insurance is the spreading of cost around all of those covered.
Nope. That's not insurance. That's collectivism.

One could say, by your logic, that we just kill off the elderly because the older you get the more you use insurance.
Do you want cheap care, or do you want care for everybody. Can't have both.

No, a 30% penalty will not deter anyone from entering after a costly diagnosis, or encourage them to insure themselves before one.
It truly won't. They'll just not get any insurance, skip the premium AND the penalty and still get roughly the same care they would if they paid.

But now, they are going to all of a sudden be able to do the same for some potential medical condition in the future?
This time it will be different!™

let's set that bar a little higher and demand more from our fellow citizens.
Or better yet, not devise "systems" that require dependence on our fellow citizens.

You don't. Trump is wrong on this.

The government should just pull out of the health insurance business entirely.

I agree with that.

Well naturally. That is, of course, my desire - hence why I said "if we legislate".
