Oldest son ran for Superintendent of Public Instruction in NC (9th most populous state), a statewide position on par with Commissioner of Insurance, highest ranking official for Education.

With no organized or financial help from the state Party, a little help from a campaign manager, he and his wife ran a campaign from the kitchen table. Mrs. Fat Man watched our granddaughter. I offered Fat Man advice (and worked the polls). Early voting was open 13 days over two weeks, so The Wife and I also cooked a lot .. like Clemenza in the Godfather ... "to the mattresses."

With over 4 million votes cast, he won by just over 50,000 ... beating a 3 term incumbent DEM (Dems own the Education world .. a Republican has never won this office). Since there were two 3rd party candidates running for POTUS, he got more votes than HRC.

He's now the youngest statewide office holder in NC (age 33).

The next morning he received calls from Teach From America's national organization (he did TOA), a lobbyist from the Koch brothers, the Lt. Governor of NC and Jeb Bush's office (JB is big on education .. wants to meet w/ him).

I know, CSB ... and thanks to those NC'ers on this Board (there are quite a few) that voted his way.

lol .. he's leaving a Tech company as in-house counsel, easy going job and taking a substantial pay cut.

No, he actually wants better outcomes at poor performing schools.

Maybe idealistic, but not corrupt.

That's awseome! Congrats to him and your family. I considered a run last year for my BESE district but the timing was not ideal to properly campaign for the job.

congrats. That is quite the feat. You should be proud, regardless of party politics.

Yes, you're right. My emphasis on the politics was an attempt to show what an uphill battle it was.

.. No, sig pic is not actually me. I'm 5'7", 180.

"Captain Chaos" was on a tv pre-game for LSU - Fla. The shirt he's wearing is one of the ones I designed and licensed to LSU w/ the Pre-Game musical notes. Perlis used to sell them, I used to have a website and LSU still sells them around the stadium on game-day.

FTR, it's just a hobby, not a business.

Well dammit, be nice to yourself. Chunky Man seems more appropriate.

Actually, Fat Man is meant as a term of respect and endearment .. comes from the old black n white movies where the fat man sat in the corner of the restaurant, knowing about everything going on i.e. worldly knowledge.

It dates back to my LSU days (70's) .. "bayouman" can attest.

It has nothing to do with my abdominal girth .. or any other girth, for that matter
