Facebook corroborates APT28 activity in the 2016 election

It turned out that Facebook, without realizing it, had stumbled into the Russian operation as it was getting underway in June 2016.
At the time, cybersecurity experts at the company were tracking a Russian hacker group known as APT28, or Fancy Bear, which U.S. intelligence officials considered an arm of the Russian military intelligence service, the GRU, according to people familiar with Facebook’s activities.
Members of the Russian hacker group were best known for stealing military plans and data from political targets, so the security experts assumed that they were planning some sort of espionage operation — not a far-reaching disinformation campaign designed to shape the outcome of the U.S. presidential race.
Facebook executives shared with the FBI their suspicions that a Russian espionage operation was in the works, a person familiar with the matter said. An FBI spokesperson had no comment.
Soon thereafter, Facebook’s cyber experts found evidence that members of APT28 were setting up a series of shadowy accounts — including a persona known as Guccifer 2.0 and a Facebook page called DCLeaks — to promote stolen emails and other documents during the presidential race. Facebook officials once again contacted the FBI to share what they had seen.

Ok.
So Zuckerburg was working with the Russians?

I still don't see why this is a big deal?
Left wants to espouse the virtues of "globalism" and "borders are becoming a thing of the past" but decry outsiders who have an opinion on the election ONLY when it doesn't match theirs?
What then is the point of this this article that was picked up by many US news outlets: Europe Would Elect Hillary Clinton in a Landslide
Why is that okay - because it's published by Reuters and read by tens of millions? That's less impactful than a trollish Facebook account that is read by 400,000?
And by the way, where is the "hacking"? This doesn't qualify as "hacking".

And independently connecting them to Guccifer 2.0 and DCLeaks?

Same Facebook who authorized those ads to be run? Seems legit.

Ok I'll just note you as not bothered by a hostile intelligence service using covert action to influence our elections. You're free to have your own opinion I guess.

Have you ever heard of the Communist International? Run from Moscow they placed Soviet agents all over the Western countries. Their mission? Influence capitalist culture, society, politics and elections for the purpose of promoting the interests of the Soviet Union.
My question to you is this: Because we know that this has been happening for about 100 years, why was the Obama Administration so powerless to identify the threat and stop the threat?
Second question: Because you won't answer the first question, we can conclude that the last Democrat Admin was too incompetent to identify and stop the threat. Therefore, why should the Democrats be allowed to profit from their own incompetence? They should be punished for their incompetence, not profit from it.

I'm not very tech savvy or computer literate but aren't we supposed to have the best computer geeks in the world? Why are our geeks getting their asses kicked by Chinese and Slavic geeks left and right? Why isn't our tech community utterly embarrassed and humiliated? Why am I the only person asking these questions?

I think the Obama Admin could have done much more much earlier than they did. But's it's a little silly to say it's been happening under each President for the last 100 years but then you blame the last President for not stopping it.

Yet the current Republican President takes every opportunity to cast doubt on Russian responsibility. You think that's better?

Why are you asking me this? I have no idea.

I blame Obama for a these things on this issue: 1) he told Putin and Medved that he would have "much more flexibility" in caving in to Russian demands after re-election; 2) he told Romney that it was ridiculous to consider Russia to be a threat to the USA; 3) Obama knew that both the Chinese and Russians were hacking the USA's computer networks yet We the People have no evidence that he did anything about it (if he did, his efforts failed); 4) if Russia's hacking and influencing were having some affect, Obama wasn't bothered about it until after Trump won.
So Obama and Hillary share the blame. As such, their political party should not benefit in any way from their own incompetence. BUT this is exactly what the Dems are trying to get away with now -- totally frick-up digital security and then try to profit from their own mistakes.

In a free democracy, you have to win the battle of ideas. Whether from internal or external those ideas are going to impact our society. We shouldn't waste time trying to fight the spread of ideas, instead win the battle because the idea is the correct one and be able to show why.

Is this that whole influence campaign thing? The one that wasn't really needed because Clinton was god awful enough as it was.
