He could have just come out and been celebrated nationally, hell that might have gotten him the Heisman alone.
I don't know about all of that. While I don't necessarily buy the whole "Gays and Lesbians are 10% of the population", certainly they are more than statistically insignificant, coming in at around 2 to 3 percent, at the least. How many NFL players have there been in the past 60 to 70 years? How many have come out? How many have come out while they're playing? You ever wonder why that is?
For that matter, how many college players have ever come out? How many while they're playing? Yes times are changing, but to assume that a football player would not have to contemplate going through 9 kinds of hell if he came out is a little naive.
It should be okay, but the perception remains, obviously, that it is not.
