I'm filing a 1040ez for a friend of our family:

- Single
- $29k income in 2016
- Forced into $230/mo high deductible plan with $114 credit that has a $6500 deductible. Essentially useless.
- Must claim the $114/mo as an advance on her 2016 refund so she owes $220 to the feds vs. $700~ refund.

She works hard, gets by on that income, but because of Obamacare paid $1600 more to the government vs. putting that towards her own healthcare or savings.

I was told the ACA was made for people like her. Someone explain to me how this is the case?

"Pass the bill so you can find out what's in it!" -Nancy Pelosi

Seriously though, on your parents plan until 26 was a good idea; perhaps can be knocked down to 24 now a days with Trump bringing jobs back. Insurance companies are cutthroat and they screwed me when I was in college for dropping a class...

They're still trying to interrupt the 2,000 plus pages.

Last I heard they were on Page 175.

in reality, what's going to happen is that the ACA defenders are going to come in and say something like this:

these stories are exactly why we needed more tweaks to the law but the GOP wouldn't let anything get done

It is called "Redistribution of Wealth". Ask Obamas & Hilldog's man Saul Alinsky.

From day 1 it has been a scam by liberals to confiscate more TAX dollars. So the young generation was to finance the program because they are less inclined to have many ailments and never use their health care. They surely would not want to go to a doctor and pay all cost up to 6500.00 bucks.

See! The government got more money. SUCCESS! And more votes from the ignorant by claims no they are "helping" people. ITS A FESTIVUS MIRACLE!

Its only a failure if you believe the purpose was to deliver affordable healthcare. It's not. The purpose is more power and control over people and buying more votes with taxpayer money.

Prenatal care is free, which is nice.

I am not a staunch defender of the ACA by any stretch. There are a handful of good things in those 2,0000 pages.

Quick question. Is the $230/mo her cost after the credit? If it is, then here's how it would work out w/o insurance.

If you don't have insurance, you incur a penalty for each month that you aren't covered. However, if the monthly premiums for the year total more than 8.13% of your annual income, then you are exempt from the penalties. In her case, she could have opted out of Obama care and received an exemption if her costs were 250 a month with an eligible Obama care plan. At 250/ mo that would be just over 10% of her total annual income. She could have put the 3 grand she spent on terrible insurance plus her 700 dollar refund into a health savings account or saving in general.
