Exactly how ignorant are they on guns?

Gun Control's Opportune Moment

quote:

Biden may also recommend limit magazine clips, possibly banning high-capacity clips and restricting gun users to 10 rounds of ammunition, sparking what some call a "war on ammo."

MAGAZINE

Is this really that hard to get straight?

Outstanding....

I'm on board. Lets have 50 round mags, and limit the clips to 10 rounds.

I mean, i understand you may not be gun savvy, but how do you write an article and not do any research?

re: Exactly how ignorant are they on guns?
They are ignorant as shite on automatic weapons. I see it daily on here. The millions of ARs sold in every gun store in America, including Wal-Mart are semi-automatic rifles. One pull of the trigger, one round fired. They look like automatic machine guns but they are not. One of these is a machine gun two are not and one isn't even a gun. There has been no talk of banning automatic weapons...

Machine guns have been heavily regulated since the 1930's. In 1986 federal law closed down the list meaning that no new guns could be added to the list. Machine guns that were on the list in 1986 can still be transferred. They require a lengthy background check, sign off by the Sheriff (in many cases) $200 to the Government, a 6-12 month wait and no one else can handle the gun unless the owner is present. Then there is the cost of the gun. These guns have only been used in a handfull of crimes over the last 80 years...

I blame it on the movies where nobody changes magazines and there is always an endless amount of ammo to be sprayed without recoil at people.

You're right Wick. There is simply so much ignorance on guns and what people are talking about that its hard to know where to start in order to clarify it. So much disinformation.

If they just used pretty wood and engraving, they wouldn't look so darn scary.

Disinformation is good for those wanting additional gun control, there is a reason we don't see clarification...

They don't have the money for that gun...

Yeah, keeping it vague and using really scary pictures and rhetoric works best. That, and keeping things simple with single syllable words like Clips rather than throwing out three syllable words like Magazines makes it easier for the common man to say and remember.

You're right. Current bid is over $42,000 for it now.

Turnbull makes nice guns and does great restoration work but $42K+ is crazy for a semi auto. I mean it isn't a Purdy or even a CSMC...

I think that is easily the biggest misrepresentation by the people in power who are trying to ban assault weapons...

I can with a clear margin fire quicker, more accurate, and reload faster with a handgun than with a semi-automatic "assault weapon"

re: Exactly how ignorant are they on guns?
I have always associated machine gun with a belt fed system with a heavy barrel. While some service rifles can fire fully automatic, the design differences, intended purpose, and effectiveness of those systems used in full auto mode should separate them as fully auto rifles and not machine guns.

Most professional combatants use full auto rifles during an egress, not an assault. The purpose of the full auto rifle has typically been to make "noise" and is much more psychologically effective than practical. A basic load of ammo could easily be expended in under one minute, which means it is expensive and potentially foolish to fire in this manner for extended periods of time.

Sadly, spree killers usually fire on unarmed folks who are clustered into small groups like schools, movie theatres, hospitals etc...so pretty much anything including bolt guns and revolvers would likely net a high rate of fatalities to shots fired.

In my opinion the only way to combat these shooters is to interfere with the psychology of the shooter and confront him with unpredictable scenarios that differ from the fish in a barrel fantasy they have likely cultivated during their preparation. You have to break his momentum and his fantasy. In short, shoot back, or present some other very real threat to him as early in the rampage as possible.

Didn't mean to derail the thread.

Wickowic, it is refreshing to see someone speaking firearms who knows what they're talking about. Kudos to you.

ETA: Same kudos to you MikedeTigah.

My question on Burt Reynolds' thread.

Clip, magazine...everyone knows what the conversation is about regardless of tech understanding...focusing on this stupid shite is pointless.
