You mean to tell me those 30+ year olds working at Burger King that can't get an order right and take a hour to make a burger don't deserve $15/hour?

What about the Wal-Mart cashiers that go at the pace of a snail and have an IQ on the borderline of being mentally handicapped?

That is Trump's (former nominee for)labor secretaries argument. His point was that economically speaking, in the near future it would be cheaper to invest in a bunch automaton tech to do most of the jobs people do now at burger joints once costs of employees exceed total cost of installing and operating that automation tech.

Automation is coming at an accelerated pace and it will be a major disruptor economically in the future.

UBI is the best argument I have heard put forth to deal with it so far.

He's a problem solver and everyone and their mother sees this issue on the horizon. I think the free market will have a solution, but he is right where people derive some of their value from the job they perform.

This is why we need to leagalize prostitution now. I think I'd still rather screw a human then a robot. Tons of jobs created

Yeah. Words are for weirdo's. You fricked up, buddy, and rather than just being a man and admitting it and moving on, you're just drawing it out.

I've decided youre wrong. All of those do amount to a UBI. And there's nothing you can do about it.

What an illogical load of horse shite!
1) There will always be jobs for humans to do. Management decisions if nothing else. Those that perform service deserve service pay, and those that perform better service deserve better pay!

2) If automation does all including management. Then logically the management should do away with the useless but dangerous and malcontented people!

3) People would not be content with what ever a basic income would provide. Insurrection, death, and destruction would result.

Heaven can only exist in theory or the spiritual realm.

Conceptually I would much rather have some form of UBI type program than hundreds of niche programs. The savings on administration alone would be great, not to mention removing the negative tinkering effect that creating programs one at a time does.

In reality, what would happen is a UBI program would replace all these programs, then over the years, the niche programs will slowly start returning due to citing a small minority of cases and we'd end up with the old system plus UBI.

From his point of view he sees it daily, which may reinforce his worldview of the future.

I do think in the future there will have to be some sort of UBI that will have to reach a larger portion of the population than before.

Yep, the news would have some poor soul claiming that they spent the UBI and still don't have any food because they live in a food desert, and now they're starving and need food stamps.

No.. basic needs (food, utilities, housing, healthcare) taken care of at a minimal level via taxes. Other safety nets eliminated.

It would work better if it was vouchers.. $600/mo to be spent on housing, $150/mo on food items, etc.

Have to be specific or it won't work. And we prob need legislation to prevent the safety net from creeping back in.

Why isn't this issue talked about more...? The population has to reach a point that it's just too much. We have more than enough people running around that are beautiful candidates for sterilization, and our future depends on being able to realize these truths.

How will people then have meaning? A lot of people derive meaning from their employment. If you’re not needed, what is the meaning? Do you feel useless? That is a much harder problem to deal with.

Well there's several generations this hasn't been a problem for. So I'm sure the rest of us can adapt

Communism involves many other things besides the redistribution of wealth. A universal basic income would remove almost every single welfare program and bureaucrat shrinking the welfare system to a tiny fraction of what it is today. It is the most libertarian of all welfare methods as it is the most efficient and would dramatically reduce the size of government.

Gonna need a wall and tight immigration restrictions - then we can talk about having nice things.
