FWIW, I don't think the marriage debate is all about legal marriage and love between any two people. It's more about getting those benefits and deducts that the legal married (man-woman) folks get. JMO.
I think it's more to do with viewing gays as equal at the alter vs man and woman. You might be right about taxes etc. and to me I don't know which is a worst discrimination. Gays have the right to be miserable like the rest of us I say.
The issue just seems so easy to fix but that's the point nobody wants to break. I just think the church can remain powerful by supporting the elimination of government involvement in marriages by calling everything a civil union.
