To the victor goes the spoils? Guess that doesn't apply to Israel.

I thought we were talking about elections. Otherwise, Germany would have been allowed to keep its spoils in 1940 and Iraq would have been allowed to keep its spoils in 1990.

How you feel about prop 8? To the victor goes the spoils?

Of course. I may not agree with it but I respect the democratic process even when I disagree with it.

Watch the video and educate yourself. I'm not going to argue with you about something you have no intention of grasping. They want real change. That's what the revolution was about, not "Sharia Law"?

There's no point in debating you since you obviously don't believe in democracy. The Iranians had theocracy shoved down their throats, but not the Egyptians, who approved their Islamic constitution with a 64% vote, a virtual supermajority by American standards.

Well, as we've all learned, asking for "change" is a bit of a gamble, because you may not get the change you doubled-down on.

I hate to see this once stable nation turned into another Muslim war zone. And then there is Syria...

Although the State Department advised against nonessential travel to the country on Friday, Pochter was already in Cairo when the protests began. He was allegedly watching the protests when he was stabbed by a participant

The U.S. Embassy in Cairo (the same one that embarrassed itself on 9-11-12 and contributed in a major way to the problems at the Embassy later in the day) did its job this time around and put out an alert 3 days ago about staying away from this stuff:

"Security Message for U.S. Citizens No. 49: Demonstration Notice
June 26, 2013

Multiple sources have reported the possibility of clashes and violence later this evening as rival groups may take to the streets and public areas to express their political views. The Embassy suggests that U.S. citizens limit their movements, avoid areas prone to gatherings, and immediately vacate any area where crowds are gathering.

As a matter of general practice, U.S. citizens should avoid areas where large gatherings may occur. Even demonstrations or events intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence. U.S. citizens in Egypt are urged to monitor local news reports and to plan their activities accordingly."

re: Egypt Day 4: Military Coupe Underway
Based on Obama's rationale for calling on Mubarak to step down, isn't he now obligated to call for Morsi to step down? Obama justified his "meddling" in Egypt over equal rights, democracy and non-violence. Since none of those appear to be happening, how is Obama not compelled to see his policy through?

Somthing to watch for: This could be the beginning of a military coup in Egypt

Abdel Fattah al-Sisi

He warned both sides that political fighting would result in military intervention. Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is not a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, controls 500,000 troops with US military backing and is a firm believer in the Israeli/ Egypt Peace agreement. Moreover, he was trained inside the US in the 1980's and has close ties to Pentagon. In other words, this is our guy.

It seems that a very large number of people are very dissatisfied with the "democratically elected" President of Egypt. The MB was running most of the show after Mubarak was ousted and there is no way they stole the election, absolutely no way.

I think at this point the world needs stability in Egypt. Everything is pointing towards a military coup. The MB came into power because they were the most organized group in Egypt but their constitution is laced with sharia. We need a military guy to take over Egypt, a Mubarak type.

It's just nonessential personnel, and it was voluntary. I still have a bunch of friends still here- all nonessential. Honestly, I think they gave a voluntary evac because there aren't that many staff here in the summer.

all oil people are still here, US Embassy are the only ppl I know who evacuated.

Do you have any links to credible sources that have questioned the legitimacy of the election?

I haven't hear anyone accuse the Brotherhood of stealing the election. Based on everything I've read, those numbers are representative of the mood of the country.
