You don't have to bite when a troll leaves a hook.

What do you mean? Are the protesters wanting a full coup?

People die everyday, everywhere. Why not be appalled at the current events in North Korea? Why is the Ukraine so important?

I'm not answering anyone who posts "the Ukraine". Too ignorant to deal with.

They want Yanukovych gone and to never come back. Any possibility of peace with Yanukovych still being in the picture went out the window when he sent in snipers.

Are you sure he meant it that way? I have caught myself using it by accident without understanding the politics behind it.

Yikes. This is going to be so bloody.

There was an article in Ukrainian the other day of an account from a priest who was leading a prayer service when people in his tent started getting shot.

You really need to get off your high horse about that and the Kiev/Kyiv thing. It is old.

Did you notice that the BBC uses "Kiev"? Does that upset you?

Stop flaming please. You aren't going to change people's minds on a interwebs forum.

This. It is such an irrelevant aspect of the discussion.

Eh, I wouldn't want some british person calling the US 'the colonies' to my face,
At least when talking about us politics.

I understand that demonym preference can get personal.

It's entirely relevant. You being ignorant doesn't change that. Same with people talking about the "Ukrainian Orthodox Church" helping with the protests when there are THREE of them, one of which is run by Moscow. If they were assisting the protests, it would be a MAJOR thing.

It most definitely is not relevant. How does the spelling or the use of "the Ukraine" alter the discussion at all?

It doesn't.
