FAA/FBI Investigating

Obama did not anticipate the Alitalia pilot throwing a wrench in his master plan. He will be killed in a freak accident by next Tuesday.

If it was only about 3 feet long could it just be a hobby remote controlled airplane?

Where are you seeing it was 3' long?

Either way....
quote:

the incident occurred at an altitude of approximately 1,750 feet. The unmanned aircraft came within 200 feet of the Alitalia plane.

Chances of it being a hobby rc seem very slim.

From Womiski's link:

quote:

An FBI spokesman said the pilot reported that the aircraft was about 1 meter long.

quote:

Assuming the Alitalia pilot wasn’t simply mistaken and saw something like a runaway Mylar balloon, the most likely explanation is that he spotted a recreational remote-controlled model aircraft, and mistook it for an unmanned drone. Many “toy” planes are capable of reaching altitudes far in excess of 1,500 feet, and some of them are quite large. Some RC companies even sell models that look just like the Predator drones used by the U.S. military. FAA regulations limit model planes to a maximum flight altitude of 400 feet, but it’s not hard to imagine an RC fan flaunting that limit.

The Alitalia pilot’s reported location of the plane –four to five miles west of JFK airport– also bolsters this theory; that might place the flight on one of the beachfront communities around Jamaica Bay, a sparsely populated area that’s well suited to RC flying.

We saw a drone, a drone aircraft," the pilot can be heard telling controllers on radio calls captured by the website LiveATC.net

No mention of 3 foot long.

quote:

"The FAA is investigating a report... he saw a small, unmanned or remote-controlled aircraft while on final approach to Runway 31 Right," according a statement sent to CNN by FAA spokeswoman Laura Brown. "The sighting was approximately four to five miles west of the airport at an altitude of approximately 1,500 feet," she said

No mention of 3 foot long.

quote:

For recreational hobbyists, flying remote-controlled planes is only allowed by the FAA up to 400 feet in the air, and within sight of the operator. If they are going to fly within three miles of an airport, they have to let air traffic controllers know.

No report of being notified, and no mention of 3 foot long.

1 meter is slightly over 3 feet

Why is this such a sticking point with you?

The Forbe's article got their info from the CNN article, which didn't state a size in feet. The only mention of that, is in the FBI link you posted.

Right, but unless you're trying to lose your plane you don't fly that high. Only explanation might be if some kid (or adult idiot) was trying to hit the plane or something equally as dumb.

Go on record now since you are arguing it was not a drone. If it is confirmed that is was in fact a drone, will you condemn the action or support it?
