Hmmm. Jews have been prominent in Nola for a long time, so I assumed they were members of many krewes. Blacks on the other hand...

Paging Glass and others with more intel.

Don't think Jews participate too much in Mardi Gras, it is, after all, a Christian thing

Krews can be hard to get into and some are not that hard to get into. Each Krew has their own way of doing things. But historically Krews were secret and you had to be someone to get in one and have family connections that went back for decades and even centuries to get into a Krew. I've been told that it's not exactly like that now, but who knows. I'll never be part of that scene.

You could be a very rich fellow and never get into a Krew because you weren't from the right family or you moved to New Orleans and had no connections.

there are Jews in some of the krewes...not sure how many in the stuffy old line organizations though...

I'm sure we have some in Endymion...

Not being from or having lived in NO I can tell you that they are not hard to get into. One of my friends moved to NO and joined a krewe almost immediately. So now everything is some shite about Mardi Gras or how great NO is or some other cultural topic that you would think is connected like some birthright. I learned that NO has its own version of the Texas try-hards and Mardi Gras is their thing instead of western wear.

OP asked if Jews were allowed.. yes but the reason more are not part is because of MG's ties to Christianity not because they aren't allowed.

When was the last time you visited a synagogue? I'm sure you're allowed

Not many, yet another of many reasons uptown NOLA society is a clown filled joke who would never make it in any other city and one of the reasons the city is a failure outside of the tourism industry and has been displaced as a leading city of the south.

Yeah, ok. It's "uptown NOLA society" that is making New Orleans a failure.

Yeah, that's true for most of them, but go try and get into the old line upper crust ones. They will laugh at you.

Not entirely true and the old line Krewes like Comus and Momus do not have parades anymore. But groups like Rex have a fair amount of Jewish members as does Bacchus and Endymion. A lot of the Mardi Gras Clubs open up their membership to anyone who can pay and want to go through the marathon that is the day of the parade. A lot of out of towners are now riding

Jews have always been prominent in NO society to include exclusive crews and other societies, in NO its about money and power not what church you affiliate with.
