Based on some of the recent decisions made by President Elect Trump, I'm noticing a disturbing pattern. I get the impression that there is a contempt for the Civil Rights Act, for no reason I would consider rationale.

I won't remark on the qualifications since I think it's best to trust Trumps judgement and wait to see how he coordinates everyone. However, I really don't think it's wise to attack the Civil Rights Act. I get the feeling that what's Sessions in particular wants to do.

You referred to an Act that has numerous sections and titles. What part of the Act did Trump say he dislikes?

Generally the contempt for the civil rights act is the federal oversight of redistricting. This usually results in a state having to jump through nonsensical geographic hoops to carve out a district that will almost assuredly produce a minority representative. There are some crazy arse districts out there. Look at AL7 and tell me that aint some shite. It goes from Selma to downtown Birmingham. By way of Tuscaloosa.

Why did the OP remove the part of his post that brought up the 15th Amendment (gave African Americans the right to vote)?

Apparently you think we should be like the Dumocrats who base all of their opinions on their feelings.

It's deeply flawed. Obviously his opposition to it was used heavily by the Democrats in 1964, but surely you don't equate Goldwater's opposition to the act on Constitutional grounds with any sort of racial animus? I mean, there wasn't a racist bone in Barry Goldwater's body.

Most Republican opposition to various measures (Title IX, just as an example) are on such grounds - not any sort of urge to "put y'all back in chains" - you should laugh when Democrats say that because they are the ones that had "y'all" in chains in the first place.

Just to be totally honest with you.

1) I challenge any black or white person to prove that you've done more for the black community than I did over a 50 yr. period...and I have the records, letters of recommendation, etc. to prove my bonafides...
2) Why have both legal and illegal aliens thrived so much more than so many American born blacks in this country? Because almost all blacks from the Caribbeans and 99% of koreans and Chinese thrive in this country...as well as many Latinos from Cuba and Mexico.

It's done pretty substantial damage to localities that have grown since the 60s but can't redistrict and pretty much has destroyed the public school systems (for both races) in places where it was historically good (for both races). It's had a lot of problems and has probably outlived its usefulness.

I personally lived through the toughest period of school desegregation...I physically stood between black gangs that were trying to attack the few white students that dared to get an education in the public jr. high at which I was teaching/coaching...and yet the commie courts destroyed public education in much of if not most of the South...the hate and resentment came almost all the times from the uninformed black masses...been there, done that!

The Civil Rights Act had many good intentions and positive results but it also had many negative consequences. My main beef with it was it is completely unconstitutional and it should have been an Amendment and not just a bill passed by Congress. That likely would have softened the language some and made it far more effective and less controversial. Of course that would have been harder but in the end the results would have been better.

What exactly did you hear that you didn't like and then your mind twisted it into an attack on civil right and thus racist. (Just like white democrats programmed you mind to do I'll add)

I share Goldwater's opinion on the subject.
