Diet drinks added to Seattle mayor’s soda-tax proposal so it hits more whites

I'll wait for someone to explain how this is constitutional but the travel ban wasn't.

Mayor Ed Murray’s soda-tax legislation led to criticism it was unfair because white and affluent people tend to drink more diet drinks. The mayor’s revised proposal lowers the tax rate slightly and adds diet soda.
quote:
Under Murray’s initial plan, announced during his State of the City address in February, distributors of sugary drinks would have paid 2 cents per ounce. The revised tax would cover sodas such as Coke and Pepsi, energy and sports drinks such as Red Bull and Gatorade, fruit drinks such as Sunny D, sweetened teas such as those sold by Arizona, and bottled coffees such as those sold by Starbucks.
But unlike the initial plan, the new proposal would cover not only sugary drinks but all sweetened beverages, including diet drinks — beverages with noncaloric sweeteners.
quote:
That work involved conversations with community advocates, public-health professionals and business owners, according to the mayor. After Murray’s initial announcement, some suggested the exclusion of beverages with artificial sweeteners would be unfair because affluent white people tend to consume more diet drinks. The revised tax would be applied to all distributors, regardless of size, but would exclude 100 percent fruit juice, medicine, infant formula and milk-based products

Dr. Ben Danielson of Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic and Estela Ortega of El Centro de la Razaare are leading the Seattle Healthy Kids coalition in support of the tax. “It’s time for Seattle to confront obesity, diabetes and other health conditions among our city’s most vulnerable populations,” they said in a statement.
I'll wait for someone to explain how this is constitutional but the travel ban wasn't.

Seattle's homosexual mayor raped underaged boys in the 80s.

If he wants white people to pay more charge a tax on "premium" bottled water.

So they are punitively taxing white people because their health-related tax on sugary nasty shite is somehow racist?

Proving it's about money and not fighting obesity...

You know, there's a reeeeeeealllly easy way to avoid that tax, whether you're black or white.

That's what it, essentially, sounds like.
Original soda tax was for fat people. Some complained whites were getting off easy because they mostly consume diet drinks.
Now diet drinks are being taxed in the "combat obesity" tax. Lol

Yep.
Taxing healthier alternatives makes those alternatives more expensive for poors.

What could be next, internet forum posts.
I don't dig the cut of your jib.

What did I say that was incorrect? It's a consumption tax on a nonessential. Fully voluntary.
Which makes the SJW rationale stupid. Minorities aren't being oppressed. They pay the tax only if they choose to buy the sugary drinks.

Government taxing items to discourage consumption has a history of failing miserably (see tobacco and alcohol). This tax isn't designed to discourage soft drink consumption, it's designed to tax people more. It should be avoided by complete abolishment of the tax.

Screencap of a video I took when I drove away from Seattle for the last time

Agree.
I'm just saying the rationale for the expansion is dumb.

Not sure why you're being downvoted, it's true. The only reason he's walking the streets is the statue of limitations.

The Constitution only means something when you have a concept of truth vs fiction.
Everything is relative to the Left. Zero integrity, only "outcomes they'd like to see".

This is a great example of why you just have to laugh at liberals who think government can successfully plan and regulate shite and that government programs can be run "efficiently".
Government doesn't make decisions based upon efficiency; government makes decisions based upon the emotions of the masses. If the government does something efficiently, it's complete happenstance and you shouldn't expect it to be repeated.

Seattle residents would flip shite if they ever got a taste of real New Orleans, Baltimore, esque type diversity.
