Says he is uncomfortable with a Japanese winning this on Memorial Day. Was not kidding. Dumb, racist thing to say, much less post.

Gets called out on it. Posts apology that explains his family history from WWII. Doesn't try to excuse it. Admits it was dumb. Just tries to explain where it came from. Fired.

The guy deserved to be called out. Didn't deserve to lose his job, especially when his apology was nothing like the ones that only say they are sorry if they offended somebody. He owned it. Almost certainly learned from it.

Guy won something like 5 "writer of the year" awards, but ends his career as an unredeemed racist, bled out on the altar of moral high ground.

He could have said something like "colored people time", or made a comment that Obama should be getting Bill coffee, or any number of things Democrats get away with (or any of us have said with our buddies, even the ones that belong to the race being referred to). No repercussions for them.

But, no, the pitchfork and torches crowd must have their blood.

If I owned the paper I'd fire him too.

Dumb tweet but who hasn't said worse. That is absolutely not something he should be fired for, especially after his apology.

I mean, the Japanese haven't and won't apologize for the atrocities they committed.

The torches and pitch forks crowd needs to be culled from the herd.

Many people REALLY need to put a calculus requirement on their Twitter.

I mean, honestly, IDGAF about the tweet.

But, it was COMPLETELY predictable how that would turn out and for what? If I'm her employer, I fire her for stupidity.

Maybe I am just worn out by the self-righteousness of so many things being boiled down to "racist", and it being the most unpardonable of sins.

This really was racist, but not more so than the crap you get from the likes of Al Sharpton, Maxine Waters, etc.

Besides, it just strikes me as a "Look how good I am for punishing this racist."

I could be wrong.

You fire her for being obtuse.

The tweet doesn't remotely offend me, but for frick's sake. She's IN the media. You simply have to be more aware than that if that's your fricking job.

Are Americans too fricking sensitive? Well of course.

But, I know that and it's not even my job to know it. So, her excuse margin is damned thin.

Dumb thing to do. Perhaps his apology will be enough for someone else to give him a job. Don't really even get his beef with a 40 year old Japanese guy winning an auto race. Bizarre.

Yeah. His apology leads me to know what was in his head in terms of the tweet.

But for frick's sake. You have to be more aware of the world around you than that.

Just another racist liberal. They're a dime a dozen. Maybe he and Bob Beckel can hang out.

Just for some perspective, Terry Frei is a Denver Institution. He is a standard issue liberal as well. Progressivism can't control it's appetite, it's going to get fed even if it has to cannibalize itself. I'm happy personally, because the more victims Progressivism creates the sooner we kill it. fricking Khmer Rouge.

Then my sympathy for him is even less.

Yep.

I don't sympathize with this guy at all now because I know with 100% certainty that he happily cheered other people getting ruined for less.

It's the same reason I really don't feel bad for college administrators who are getting eaten.

My grandmother had a brother who was killed in WWII by a Japanese sniper. She always cursed those "damn Japs." I can see how people get emotional in times like these, and I think firing the guy is an overreaction.

That said, I rather like the Japanese myself.

He dug a bigger hole with his apology steering it towards his family's involvement in WWII after his original piece said nothing personal, but he was uncomortable accepting the guy's win.
The paper did the right thing.

He had a perfectly good avenue to make his opinions known...in his newspaper column after his emotions had settled down.

Never understood why people with public jobs tweet.

It's the internet version of the emotional answering machine message.

I bet if he had waited a day to write a column that he was upset about a Japanese man winning Indy, he wouldn't have written it and if he had, his editors would have dumped the story.

Yep.

Twitter is a net positive for exceedingly few people.

It's mimicking the French Revolution and the Terror. They began eating their leaders and then themselves.

They have no choice. The entire Progressive project is based on resentment, and they have an unlimited supply of that. Eventually though, They run out of victims and begin to consume each other and then the game is up for a decade or so until enough people have forgotten and they organize around some " new" resentment.
