Dems' secret weapon: Vitter's vices

LINK

quote:

Vitter, a Louisiana Republican, has infuriated Democrats this week by commandeering the Senate floor, demanding a vote on his amendment repealing federal contributions to help pay for lawmakers’ health care coverage.

But Democratic senators are preparing a legislative response targeting a sordid Vitter episode. If Vitter continues to insist on a vote on his proposal, Democrats could counter with one of their own: Lawmakers will be denied those government contributions if there is “probable cause” they solicited prostitutes.

According to draft legislation obtained by POLITICO, Democrats are weighing whether to force a Senate vote on a plan that would effectively resurrect Vitter’s past if the conservative Republican continues to press forward with his Obamacare-bashing proposal.

Holy Crap

Yet another example as to why each and every elected official making a living off of the tax payers in Washington D.C. need to be removed from office the next time their seat is up. Re-elect no one.

I'm not a legal scholar, but Probable cause probably ain't going to hold upon something like that, even if it passed, they just want to embarrass the guy..very petty, but its Dems, so no surprise...

Explain to me:
What does this
quote:

Lawmakers will be denied those government contributions if there is “probable cause” they solicited prostitutes

Have to do with this
quote:

demanding a vote on his amendment repealing federal contributions to help pay for lawmakers’ health care coverage.

The way I read this is that Vitter wants to vote on Congress and their aides being exempt from ObamaCare. Essentially, Vitter wants to throw everyone into the exchanges and not subsidize their healthcare.

In return, legislation will be brought up if "probable cause" of prostitution has occurred in a lawmakers past then they can't receive government contributions?

Is this not fricking sick

Vitter will be the most hated man in DC if Congress and their aides have to live by the same law they voted in. I mean, they can't be expected to live by the laws they pass.

That's playing rough.

Good for him, and willing to bet he's still more moral than any Dem. up there.

If this comes to fruition, it will rehab Vitter for his past sins, make him a hero, and harm anyone that votes for such legislation if they are in any contested state.

I would love to see Vitter call their bluff and vote for it knowing full and well he'd be losing his benefits and then unleash hell on the dozens of senators and reps in the democratic party that would be in violation of that provision.

We agree, I think he will become a real hero if he follows this through. I've never been a Vitter fan, but you almost have to be in this situation.

He can make it work for him. They're handing him a golden fricking opportunity really.

I hope he doesn't back down. I guarantee you nobody but DC aides and Congressional leaders want this. Practically 95% of the country is against this exemption.

If I'm Vitter, I "one up" them and say "Okay, but let's expand it to any "probable cause" for the commission of any criminal offense or violation of federal/state election laws."

It's only wrong when Republicans do it. Anyone want to revive Clinton's past? I bet it would make an AWESOME book. Maybe two volumes.

Make no mistake I can't stand Vitter. But his stances on many issues are a target rich environment. Go after that.

Aren't 95% of Congressmen prostitutes themselves? Seems such an amendment could make things a bit hairy up there.

I wish I were in Vitter's place right now. I'd dare those low-lifes to go on record with that piece of crap legislation.

All he has to do is be honest. Even the most staunch of Religious Conservatives will cheer Vitter on this one.

The Dems are getting desperate. The fun begins.
