From Vox

quote:

“I think she’s going to win: I think it’s going to be a surprise like Trump, because a lot of the people who like her are quieter,” Kay Decker said. “We’ve kept quiet about it.”

quote:

At a Waffle House in Sandy Springs a few hours later, 21-year-old Neek Amie and his friend “Q” also said they had no plans to vote. "I don’t partake in this government system,” Amie said. “I wish I could just secede from America.”

Just taking the pulse of the district restaurant scene.

I'll eat Panera's Asian salad in a pinch. But that's about it.

They've built two Panera's in the Myrtle Beach area and both are right beside Mod Pizza. Neither really appeal to me.

Panera opened up in Baton Rouge and was awesome, great food with good service. Then they made the mistake of all out of town chains that come in to Baton Rouge, they hired a bunch of people from North Baton Rouge. Now the service is so terrible Panera is reserved for my out of town trips.

The one in Emory Village is a good place for me to work outside, and I can walk there. Other than that, it's Paner-meh Bread. They hire challenged people, too, which I think is awesome and I want to support.

Their broccoli cheese soup is fine, and hibiscus tea.

I don't vote Democrat, as a rule, so I guess I'm not a political target when I go there to be lame.

I like Panera, and the Democrats lost my vote about two years ago.

That's a good sign. The Snowflake Homo vote might just stay home.

A part of me wishes I could be interviewed, just so that I could give really insane answers to questions and then claim a different party each time.

"I'm voting Republican. Why? Oh, easy. They have the strongest track record on hedgehog mutilations."

"I'm voting Democrat. Why? Duh. They're the only party in favor of finding the cat people at the center of the planet."

also, tom price won this district by 23pts last fall. Handle should be expected to win it, handily.

Trump won the district by a point.

You can google the data, but special congressional elections correlate MUCH more closely with the margin in the most recent prez margin in that district than the margin of the most recent representative election.

You're a stats guy, aren't you? Surely you recognize the difference between a race with a credible dem candidate, huge amounts of warchest funds, NO INCUMBENT (biggest factor), a weak gop candidate, and a gop president who is weaker in suburban districts than historical republicans, and a race with a long time congressman, no dem spending, no-name candidate, etc.

sure, and it definitely shows weakness for Rs in this district. Plus generally, representatives are re-elected due to their influence.

I am not going to google it.

a) the spend isn't that big of a difference, when you look at soft and hard money. Ossof is killing it in the hard money, but SUperPacs are dumping $$ for handle.

b) You are right Handel isn't a very good candidate, but she has a lot of experience, and ossoff has almost zero.

c) I think it is easy to read too much into these special elections. It is a solidly red district, and by all expectations should tilt to a generic republican over a generic democrat.

d) while there is a bit of a referendum on trump, that is probably largely over-shadowed by things like healthcare and taxes,
