Democrats gird for defections on Obamacare vote

quote:

House Democrats expect dozens of their members to vote for a Republican bill that would allow health insurance companies to continue selling plans canceled under Obamacare through 2014, the first test of support on Capitol Hill since the law’s disastrous rollout. Senior Democratic aides say between 40 and 50 of their members might support the bill, penned by House Energy and Commerce Chairman Fred Upton (R-Mich.). The bill is expected on the floor Friday. It’s a massive show of disloyalty to President Barack Obama, but aides expected the defections to be far higher. Upton’s bill would allow individuals whose insurance has been cancelled to keep their plans.

quote:

The defections are even more significant, because Obama’s White House Thursday night vowed to veto the bill, saying it “threatens the health security of hard working, middle class families.”

Upton's going to blow it.

It doesn't matter because Obama will veto it.

The GOP should offer only this bill this one time.

Once vetoed, let the libs sink with Obamacare till the elections.

re: Democrats gird for defections on Obamacare vote
It's a dog and pony show that the Dems cooked up with Obama during that meeting with him to try to save the senate next November. A veto is a foregone conclusion that the WH promised. They were told to go ahead and vote for it to save their jobs because it will never become law. Obama green lighted this.

This isn't a defection. It's a life raft.

This gives the at risk Dems cover for the devastating campaign ads that are about to roll out. They can point to their vote on this bill or another dem bill similar to it and crow about their attempt to stop the cancellations. All with the silent complicity of the WH.

And the republicans are falling right into the trap by pushing bill like this.

The republicans need to sit down, shut up, and let obamacare roll out just as it is written. Then they will reap the rewards of the backlash in 2014 and quite possibly 2016.

They are out maneuvering themselves at this point.

Why would any republican want a bill that gives Dems, political covert till after 2014, but doesn't change Obamacare? The bill is horrible, the Dems wanted it, let it hang them.

Because they are obtuse. I just don't understand how they keep making the same mistakes over and over again. Always two moves behind.

Reminds me of Putin making Obama his bitch a while back. The simple and best solution is for the republicans to do nothing. Give the dem's the rope and throw the other end over the branch.

Let gravity do the rest.

The current Republican leadership has to be the dumbest to ever fill the post.

Perhaps they want to do the right thing and for once not make decisions based on political motives?

Nah who am I kidding? That'd be expecting too much.

Yep. The dumbass GOP is giving these scumbags a safety net for the midterms. Now they can all say they voted to fix it and blame a lame duck President for the veto.

And as for Democrats who were now criticizing the administration over the roll-out, Walden said: “You can’t get away from your votes, you can’t get away from their statements … I think they’re in real trouble.”

I agree but I'm holding out hope that they will see the leaves sprinkled over the bear trap this time. But recent history certainly doesn't give me much encouragement.

Sometimes the best solution is to allow events to unfold and step in during the aftermath to clean up and assign responsibility to the perpetrators.

The Dems learned this a few election cycles ago. The Reps have yet to understand it.

If this were true, and they really wanted the best for the American people, they would allow Obamacare to fail on its own and not help it limp along.

Yes - dumb as DEMs would define dumb.

Dumb to a DEM is anything that negatively affects the next election.

It could be that the GOP is actually trying to throw a life preserver to the unfortunate individuals whose insurance has been cancelled by the DEMs. In other words the GOP is trying to be statesmen - doing the right thing for the general good, regardless of the politics.

GOPers are just naturally more problem-solvers than DEMs, who are naturally feral - to hell with the consequences of their greedy grasp for power.

I wish the GOP could be good gutter fighters too, but they never have been.

And the MSM seems to think these are the natural roles for the two parties. GOP is held to an unrealistically high standard and are held liable for what other GOPers do. DEMs can act in any criminal fashion they want and it is "just politics" and no DEM is ever asked to judge the idiocy of another DEM.

Would love to see a bad-ass GOPer come along and clean up the streets.

Again, this will help no one in the long run and is simply putting a band-aid on a cancer. If they truly wanted to help, they would allow this horrible legislation to fail completely and then offer a better alternative.

Libtards are pissed.
“The only fix needed in health care reform is to abolish the junk insurance industry,” Schultz wrote. “The ACA does that ! Dems hold the line.”

And Daily Kos launched a petition urging Obama to start blaming insurance companies for people losing their health insurance.

“Why is President Obama apologizing — telling the American public on national TV that he’s ‘sorry’ to have promised that everyone can keep their health insurance? The actions of some of these companies proves why we needed health care reform in the first place: insurance companies are greedy, and cannot be trusted,” the petition reads. “It is time to set the record straight. Tell President Obama to stop apologizing for the despicable conduct of private insurance companies, and hold them accountable.”

This doesn't give them cover, they voted for this bill it's on them, if they were deceived or just didn't read the bill or lying through their teeth matters not.
