In my very humble opinion there is not a snowball's chance in hell the dems block General Mattis' confirmation.

I agree but they are going to make it a mess as long as they can.

Gillibrand said on Thursday night she will oppose a waiver for Mattis.

I'd love to hear her explanation

Looks like the Dems made their own bed. They passed the nuclear option for voting, now they must suffer it.

Should still give them a chance of making a show to try to block him. Let these frickers keep doubling down on stupid.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) will require a vote at a 60-vote threshold to allow Mattis to become the defense secretary
That will be golden. Kirstan has been fairly worthless. There is a chance Trump might point that out

They really don't want to start this battle.

There are battles they can fight but this isn't one of them.

It'll be viewed as unpatriotic and petulant at best,

Mattis has gotten early nods from a lot of places that don't like Trump or his other picks (mainly Flynn). Would be surprised if Dems mustered much of a fight on this.

LOL. The Obamabots crack me up.

Republicant's did more to help Obama when he was in office. And I say this as someone who has maybe voted for 2 Rs my entire life. Rs were literally worthless lapdogs for Obama and his press.

I don't see the problem with Mattis. Trump could pick far worse.

Regardless of side, these procedural roles are bs ... why should a threat of a filibuster derail a law or nomination? ... crap like this is why those asshats can make deals with each other without disclosure ...

It's like the democrats learned politics from the GOP.

Of all the nominees so far Mattis is the one with the most support from both sides.

I'd pay to see Mattis corner one of those weaselly Dem. Senators who tries to talk shite about him and him straight lay into their arse with the truth.

Outgoing Ash gave a glowing account of Mattis, if that counts for anyting.

Mr. Mitchell and Senator Sam Nunn, chairman of the Armed Services Committee, both argued that Mr. Tower's nomination was a special case, a nominee for a particularly sensitive job plagued by an unusually long list of allegations about purported drinking problems, misconduct toward women and lax attitudes toward conflicts created by his work as a consultant to military contractors.

Mr. Nunn said he did not expect ''in my lifetime'' to see another nominee with so many allegations against him.

FWIW Nunn is still alive.

...and they'll do it, because they're petulant children.

The Republican party has refused, for over 8 months now, to vote on a lawfully submitted and well qualified nominee for the Supreme Court.

But the Republicans aren't petulant children, right?

And don't spout some BS about it being Obama's last year in office. Using that logic, Senators shouldn't be allowed to vote on anything during their last 18 months in office.
