This is just embarrassing. You can't limit the Presidents Constitutional War Powers.

quote:

A Democratic lawmaker is calling on Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) to "immediately" reconvene the House in the face of escalating tension between the U.S. and North Korea.

Rep. David Cicilline (D-R.I.) told Ryan in a letter on Friday that the House must act immediately to prohibit President Trump from ordering a preemptive nuclear strike without congressional authorization.

"In light of the ongoing standoff between the United States and North Korea, as well as President Trump's reckless words," Cicilline wrote, "I ask that you immediately call the House of Representatives back into session to debate legislation prohibiting the U.S. from conducting a preemptive nuclear strike without prior congressional authorization."

Cicilline, who sits on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, accused the president of making "a dangerous situation even worse" in the Korean Peninsula with his promise that North Korea would face "fire and fury" if it continued to threaten the U.S. and its allies.

"
quote:

It is critical that the Trump administration exhaust all diplomatic options before resorting to military force. Instead, President Trump has made a dangerous situation even worse," he said.

"The president's words matter. And in this case, his words have been harmful," he continued.

Trump toughened his rhetoric against North Korea on Thursday, warning that his promise of "fire and fury" might not have been "tough enough."

"Frankly, the people who were questioning that statement, was it too tough? Maybe it wasn't tough enough," he told reporters Thursday. Members of both parties have questioned Trump's tone.

Cicilline told Ryan in his letter that Congress has an obligation to de-escalate the situation before nuclear war erupts.

"Millions of Americans live within range of North Korea's intercontinental ballistic missiles," Cicilline wrote. "If the president will not diffuse this situation, then Congress must."

I'm a Trump supporter and before Trump goes to war with NK he needs authorization from congress. NK does not fall under AUMF.

Interesting, we are technically still in a state of war with North Korea and that war was never voted on by Congress. Furthermore, you want to give away any room for surprise attack.

From the way the left is talking about how hurtful Trump's words are, perhaps there's no need to use military weapons. Trump will eventually win the war by being too mean.

While we start voting North Korea unloads on the South and Japan. We need to strike first quick and hard and it needs to be a surprise.

Someone please fill me in on President war powers.

It's my understanding that the president needs to get house approval before he can start dropping bombs. He can do that in secret.

Note, Syria fell under the current and active AUMF as I understand it.

Sounds like someone wants to get away from his wife and back to his DC girlfriend.

These 2 sentences tell me one thing: this guy is an uneducated pussy.

Why do some of you want war so badly? I, for one, have zero desire for us to be involved in yet another unnecessary war. Kim Jong Un is a bag of hot air. If he actually launches missiles toward Guam, I'll be shocked.

President can begin military action but must notify congress within 48 hours. Second without authorization the President can conduct military missions for 60 days. Finally, The President has 30 days to pull troops out and end military conflict.

Trump could technically wage a war for over 60 days without Congress approval. If Congress approves then all good. The element of surprise is given to the Executive branch. If Congress disapproves the President should probably stop action or face impeachment etc..

Because if we don't wage this war then his nuclear capabilities become ever greater. The US cannot let this mad man blackmail us and the world. There is a window to stop him and nobody wants to see people die but that's his decision. Understand Trumps not the one that kicked this cab down to this moment.

Is Trump provoking a war, probably? Is North Korea provoking war probably? Should we let them become nuclear powers with a seat at the world table? These people are crazy and the most dangerous regime the worlds ever seen.
