Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian announced after a meeting of airline chiefs with President Donald Trump that the carrier plans to hire 25,000 people over the next five years. Atlanta-based Delta has about 80,000 employees around the world, and hires regularly in some areas due to turnover. The 25,000 figure includes a combination of growth and backfilling attrition, but Delta did not specify the breakdown.

It's becoming a daily occurrence now. Even you libs have to admit that Trump is doing something that Barry could never do.

This is nothing new. Delta goes through these hiring processes EVERY YEAR. My best friend from college got hired during one of these 3 years ago and still works with the company.

Awesome. Delta has been doing well lately.

Would like to see them add a hub in Texas somehow.

Didn't Delta kick that YouTube guy off the plane for yelling in Arabic? I'm in.

Please find that commitment in the op. That is if your reading comprehension is up to it.

Over the next 5 years*

And they hire a shite ton of people and the majority of them get weeded out. It's their business strategy.

Trump has nothing to do with what has already occurred for years now.

Semantics. But regardless, get used to these companies hiring more people. We still have 8 years left.

Speaking of airlines, a little factoid I read yesterday - where meals are served on a flight, the pilot and co-pilot eat different meals just in case of food poisoning. Never thought about it that way. Another factoid, one in eight people in the US have worked at McDonald's during their lifetime (source, crossword puzzle answer).

Okay, back to regular program posting.

They need to add more flights and planes. Tired of every plane being 100% full every time because of a low number of flights on routes in order to preserve high fares.

I agree.

I think they have a lot of outstanding orders for the A321, A330, 737, and the new Bombardier C-series. They just seem very deliberate and conservative with expansion.

Sounds like they expect to hire some additional workers provided the government will kick in some protectionist measures to hamper competition and consumer choice...

quote:

And, the hiring could be contingent on other factors, including an issue Delta is pushing for action on in Washington related to competition from Middle East carriers.

Bastian in a written statement released after the Thursday morning meeting of airline CEOs with Trump at the White House said the hiring would be done “with the support of a level playing field globally.”

Delta executives have been raising concerns about what they say is an un-level playing field with Middle East carriers that they say unfairly receive subsidies from their governments and fly to the United States.

I guess the $6 billion tax payer funded upgrade to their airport hub isn't enough to guarantee a single additional US job.

yeah, that's not really the case.

quote:

Bastian in a written statement released after the Thursday morning meeting of airline CEOs with Trump at the White House said the hiring would be done “with the support of a level playing field globally.” Delta executives have been raising concerns about what they say is an un-level playing field with Middle East carriers that they say unfairly receive subsidies from their governments and fly to the United States.

quote:

Bastian called the meeting with Trump “a positive discussion about many of the major issues facing U.S. travelers, airline employees and the aviation industry, which is a vital economic engine for America.” At the meeting, Trump told the group of airline CEOS: “We want the traveling public to have the greatest customer service and with an absolute minimum of delays.” When Bastian introduced himself at the beginning of the meeting, Trump said: “Delta’s doing well.” And when told Atlanta’s airport is the world’s busiest, the president said he loves the state of Georgia. Trump congratulated airlines at succeeding “despite the bad equipment that the airport gives you, in many cases.” Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly said the top priority for helping airlines is to modernize the air traffic control system.

So it sounds like Trumps push to push back on unfair Middle East airlines that give an advantage to them over American owned airline companies is one of the reasons for this.

But keep that head in the sand.
