This is truly sickening.

Shame on you NOPD

quote:

The city's inspector general found that five detectives who were assigned to nearly 1,300 calls alleging sexual assault in a three year period, failed to follow up on an astonishing 86 percent of them.

quote:

Detective A:

Had 13 cases involving child abuse, and failed to file any follow-up reports on 11 of them.
Did not follow up on two cases of infants with head trauma, even after hospital staff reported suspicions of foul play.
Did not follow up on allegations of sexual assault involving a 2-year-old with a sexually transmitted disease.

What do you think should happen to the detectives? And is it solely on them or is there pressure on the higher ups to make some of these cases "go away"?

Fired? Hell no. They should be arrested and imprisoned.

Yep, termination would be a good start but I wouldn't stop there. Also shows a lack of oversight from NOPD brass.

Disgusting. There's no excuse for not pursuing that to the ends of the damned Earth. The detectives need to lose their jobs and be prosecuted for malfeasance for the most heinous of these crimes they ignored.

Right.

People get prosecuted for false reports, perjury and not cooperating with police. Same rules should apply here.

They need to tar and feather these worthless individuals and run them out of town on a rail.

This is why crime stats from city to city can be misleading.

Police incompetence can actually lower crime rates because fewer crimes are processed.

Exactly. If these guys aren't arrested, there should be public outcry.

This also calls into question every case they have ever had.

Scum.

That's pretty terrible.

What does the Mayor's office have to say regarding example of poor leadership?

Perhaps they should be more concerned with not acting like the 1st Infantry and do you know, actual police work.

Typical New Orleans cop. Wants to get paid and do the least amount of work possible. Also, you won't find them anywhere around a serious crime in progress.

Serpas resigned because he was a terrible police chief who's incompetence Mayor Landrieu couldn't protect anymore.

I don't know why this surprises anyone.

But I'm sure the federal consent agreement will fix all of this. sarcasm

But seriously it has got to the point that the only thing that may save the city would be a removal of its charter and direct governance by the State.

If proven, they should be fired and prosecuted.

Why should they follow up on them? Incompetence helps improve crime stats.

NOLA statistically has fewer rapes per capita than Boulder, CO and Nashville.
