The tax code is also a clumsy way to distribute help to parents who are trying to afford a cost that can reach $17,000 a year but has to be paid monthly or even weekly. A tax deduction or rebate will only come once a year at tax time.

This is true.

If they are not paying taxes, then they don't have jobs and don't need childcare.

If you don't pay taxes, then you don't have any skin in the game, in which case your opinion is worthless.

This is the issue for me, too many people do not have Skin in the game and the rest of us have to make up the Skin, it is why I voted for Trump

Sort of, but not really. You can set up a dependent care fsa and get those expenses taken out of your check before taxes are taken out.

Correct. They can sit their arse at home and raise their kids for free.

Deductions do nothing for lower-income Americans who earn too little to owe federal income taxes and people with small tax bills. About 35 percent of Americans don’t have federal income tax liabilities.

Trump’s plan therefore offers a rebate for poorer families through the Earned Income Tax Credit

Tell me where in the hell this is my problem? Stop pumping babies out of that hole between your legs and you won't have to worry about it.

And how is it too much to ask people to finance 1 year of their child's daily care and after that the tax payers are going to pick up the bill?

If the commies hate it, then it is probably a good idea.

A couple of the economists from this board, one a principled conservative, the other a principled libertarian, probably contributed their vast academic, not real world, insight into this.

I mean seriously, when the largest single risk ever taken by these kooks was buying a house, why shouldn't we take advice from them?

The majority of people who would benefit from childcare assistance the most don't understand FSAs and can't afford to have a single cent deducted from their check.

If our goal is to get people on the job and off the dole, we should just give them child care vouchers to cover the expense on a sliding scale for a specific time period.

I'm down with the tax break. It incentivizes work and family.

This is not true.

The bottom 40% of wage earners with children end up paying zero federal tax

The bottom 35% depending on number of children get an "EIC" Earned income tax credit(redistribution of wealth check, paid for by other tax payers) that can be as high as $6296 despite paying zero income tax.

Well you've made it clear in this thread you don't understand how taxes or FSAs work.

Depends. A rebate can be in the form of an advance credit, in which case you don't have to wait until April 15.

The low-income parent(s) already have help.

Headstart and Early Headstart, providing care from birth to 5 yrs.

Also, the Child Care Assistance Program: "The Child Care Assistance Program is for families with children under age 13 (and under age 19 for children who are handicapped or have special needs). To get CCAP, your income has to be below the limits. Parents also have to work, look for work, or go to school to get CCA."

There is also a Child and Dependent Care tax credit for low-income.

And probably a bazillion more programs taxpayers are already funding.
