So, conversations in the oval office between the sitting FBI director and the President are NOT confidential and subject to review by a superior as to the classification of the document? As someone with classified clearance, I would likely be arrested for releasing any notes about my meeting with the president where we discussed classified information.

Right. They aren't classified unless classified information is discussed. No one that is qualified to do so has claimed that these memos should be classified. If they were he would be guilty by just releasing his opening statement yesterday.
