If Dems had attacked his record and stated desire to restart the war on drugs and supporting ciivl asset forfeiture, they could've gotten 3 republicans to drop him like a rock. If there are bad laws, get on the arse of Congress to have them repealed or to pass better laws.
Having laws on the books that are not enforced provides a bonanza of selected prosecution - you overlook the violations when the 'criminals' are on your side, but send any 'criminals' to jail who oppose you.
ENFORCE THE DAMNED LAW - debate whether or not the law should be a law in CONGRESS.

I can see Sessions taking one for the team and resigning. They shouldn't wait, just do it. Sessions could have a personal family issue and need to resign tomorrow. The media will flip the frick out bigly because the next AG won't recuse himself but then the media will be reminded of AG Holder, and Janet Reno and so on... never recused themselves over even the most tedious-- controversial issues
