How is this spun by the liberals? These numbers are staggering. There is no defense.

CHICAGO (AP) - One of the most violent years in Chicago history ended Sunday with a sobering tally: 762 homicides, the most in two decades and more than New York and Los Angeles combined.
The nation's third largest city also saw 1,100 more shooting incidents than it did in 2015, according to statistics released by the Chicago Police Department that underlined a story of bloodshed that has put Chicago at the center of a national dialogue about gun violence.

They obviously need more than just gun control. They need SUPER gun control

Good thing those lives didn't matter

yeah this is really sort or ridiculous
what other major cities have had a spike in violent crime? it won't be many, if any
this is literally a MAJOR outlier/reverse of 20+ years of statistical trends

Those numbers are high by today's standards... but I still remember the 80's and 90's when a big city like New York would have roughly 2,000 murders a year.
Chicago used to have nearly 1,000 murders per year in the early 90's.
So I guess I'm not as shocked as some.
The only thing that is shocking is Chicago's murders are increasing after decades of decreasing in all cities across the country. So that part is interesting.
But as far as the raw numbers go, it's been much worse before.

It is. But how do you reverse this trend? There doesn't seem much in the way of changing anything except people yelling that there needs to be more "gun control". How fricking stupid can you be.

it may just be a 1-year outlier. some random anomaly
but this is pretty much ONLY occurring in Chicago, so the questions have to be aimed at Chicago alone. what is it about Chi-town that is causing these issues? why aren't Houston, Los Angeles, New York, etc facing the same issues?

Yep, that's got to be a record.

Why so worried about Chicago? The murder rate in New Orleans is much higher. You know. Glass houses...

NYC and LA are much safer than they used to be while Chicago is the same.

Chicago must have terrible community organizers.

this is one of the biggest statistical shift in the areas of sociology and criminology
why worried about chicago? because it's reversing the trend of reducing violent crime that's been going on for 20+ years, and it's reversing HARD

it's only the same b/c of a sudden, immediate reversal in trends. trends that ALL of these cities were seeing
those trends basically all continued...except chicago, who just had a major spike up

It's always liberal cities that experience the most crime and violence. No one has ever said a place like Salt Lake City's too dangerous.

It's like the stock market. Past performance is no indication of future results. But the general trend is still down. It'll drop like everywhere else.

I'm not exactly seeing your angle, are you saying that chicago's violence isn't a big deal and you are pointing out other cities that have violence? Why are you defending this spike in violence? That doesn't make any sense

it is when pretty much literally everywhere else has continued the trend

I'm pretty sure that's not true. I just linked to salt lake. Without looking I'd guess they had lower crime in the 90's than now. And other cities in the Midwest (Detroit, flint, St. Louis, etc) have all stayed high as well.
