Chicago Tribune calls for dissolution of Illinois

Illinois is like Venezuela now, a fiscally broken state that has lost its will to live, although for the moment, we still have enough toilet paper.
But before we run out of the essentials, let's finally admit that after decade upon decade of taxing and spending and borrowing, Illinois has finally run out of other people's money.
Those "other people" include taxpayers who've abandoned the state. And now Illinois faces doomsday.
So as the politicians meet in Springfield this week for another round of posturing and gesturing and blaming, we need a plan.
And here it is:
Dissolve Illinois. Decommission the state, tear up the charter, whatever the legal mumbo-jumbo, just end the whole dang thing.
We just disappear. With no pain. That's right. You heard me.
The best thing to do is to break Illinois into pieces right now. Just wipe us off the map. Cut us out of America's heartland and let neighboring states carve us up and take the best chunks for themselves.

The alternative is hell. Illinois hasn't had a state budget for years. The state continues to spend money it doesn't have, and the state's credit ratings have dropped, increasing the cost of borrowing more money we don't have to keep the rotten shebang going.
Bills pile up; Moody's Investor Service says taxpayers are on the hook for $251 billion in unfunded public union pension liabilities.
Boss Mike Madigan, king of the Democrats who control things, wants tax increases but no real structural reform to bring stability to The Venezuela of the Midwest.
And the whispers of bankruptcy won't help the average (remaining) taxpaying chumbolones like you and me who don't want to leave our homes but who'll get stuck with the bills.
Since our neighboring states are doing better, taking Illinois jobs and businesses and Illinois workers and taxpaying families, they might as well just take the rest of Illinois, too, dammit.
Wisconsin can have Chicago and begin calling it "South Milwaukee."
Naturally, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel will fight this. He needs a job. And he'll most likely beg his friends at The New York Times and the Washington Post to write angry editorials to save him. And these will be full of concern for the republic and those dispossessed Midwestern salt-of-the-earth taxpaying Americans, as if.

Illinois is a pretty "normal" state if you remove Chicago.

And who would want them? They would bring their politics and opinions with them and pollute the states that took them. They made this bed...lie in it!

Strangely, I think I could support this.

Chicago has been controlled by dims for 86 years. The state is probably about the same.

With contributions to the city's pension plan for government workers funded at only 34 to 35 percent of their liability -- and since unions resist any cuts or givebacks -- taxes must be a raised to cover the shortfall. Raise taxes on job creators, and they leave. When they leave, they take their taxes with them, contributing to the city's further decline, the so-called "economic death spiral."
Nationwide, 10 percent of all parents have their kids in private schools. In Chicago, 39 percent of public school teachers with school-age children have their kids in private school.

Wisconsin would be totally f'd the way they have the map drawn up. Chicago would siphon off all the gains made by Governor Walker.

It's better for GOP to maintain status quo

Canada can have Chicago.
I kind of lie that idea. Kind of like East Berlin in West Germany! Or was it West Berlin in East Germany? I get that confused.
ETA
East Berlin in east Germany and West Berlin in West Germany. One city essentially in two countries.

4 of the last 6 Illinois Governors have been Republican. While half of the Democratic Governors are in jail.

I dont think Wisconsin really wants South Chicago. I dont think anyone wants Chicago.

You'd go from 5 red states and one blue state to 5 blue states and one red state (don't think you could effect Kentucky!), no thanks!

I was thinking maybe the same thing should be proposed for Louisiana, but the bordering states wouldn't have any part of it.

Wall it off, let the non-violent people out (those that want to go), name it the Prison of the US and drop in every violent offender in the US. Survival of the fittest.

They're also having people move out of the state at an alarming rate.
They really are fricked unless they can dramatically overhaul just about everything inside the government and the way politics are done in the state.
But obviously that will never happen so they will continue to burn, the temperature rising by the day.

Illinois' legislature has been run by Democrats for generations with the power concentrated by the Chicago Cartel for the benefit of Chicago
