Can we do anything without involving the government?

Thought about this last night and I'm genuinely curious. Everyone talks about smaller government but is it even possible to shrink it that much?

Get a job? Better pay your taxes and be legal to work.

Drive around? Better have your inspection sticker, minimum level of car insurance, driver's license, registration, etc.

Have a kid? Birth certificate and social security number.

Get married? Marriage license.

Get an education? You have to prove your kids are in school, even if they aren't in public school.

Is there anything?

I see a lot of talk about it, but can't say I know much.

Do you not have to claim it as income at any point?

Unless it involves horse elevators for cars with dogs on the roof that oppose free birth control, the country doesn't really give a rip.

no...I really can't think of a single human activity that is not somehow regulated....what a completely insane world...

which is why I have to laugh every time someone says they live in a 'free country'

Hell, I'd settle for the same amount of govt but devolve the power and responsibilities from the Federal level back down to state, county, city levels.

The Founders did not envision the massive power shift from local to national that has occurred in the last 200 years.

Well, it's a little more involved than that. When I wanted a house, I paid tax on the building supplies, paid tax on gas to transport the materials, paid tax on the tools, spent 9 months of my life putting it all together to make a structure that will be taxed as long as I live. Otherwise the true owners will show up and take it from me.

Did you see the thousands of cars stranded on the highways in Atlanta?

They were waiting on the government to check the weather and let them know it was going to snow.
