WTF is China going to do? Cut off our supply of $1 Tshirts? Rattle the cage of that fricktard in NK and get him to make some noise?

Seriously, I don't get all of the melt over our Prez elect speaking with their DEMOCRATICALLY elected president.

I've spent a great deal of time in both places. Taiwan is an awesome place. The people there LOVE Americans and America. I could walk into a club over there and damn near have to crawl out without spending a dime.

In China everyone looks at you like you just stole something and for every 10 miles outside of a major city you go, you also go back in time 50 years.

If Taiwan is so bad, why do we sell them a shite load of military equipment? Why do we have a protect agreement with them?

I'd tell China to go frick off.

Well you see when the brits gave it back to China they agreed that Taiwan would be a democracy for 55 years or so... once that is over it is assumed Taiwan would join fully into the Chinese gov.

I think it's much to do about nothing. The MSM just trying to stir up criticism of everything Trump does.

They were the "recognized" gov't for the PRC until Shek died, and even held the PRC seat at the UN.

Britain owned Taiwan?

Trump should start calling the island Formosa and smirk while saying it.

Doesn't the US still officially recognize Taiwan as being the govt. of China?

Anyway, under treaties it's supposed to be allowed to be its own democracy.

You're thinking of Hong Kong. Taiwan was not associated with the Brits.

I had a client who used to work in China periodically, and he said something similar to me. He said people think of China as a tech-savvy place, but the common people actually live a couple decades behind us.

Liberals assume all those that do not agree with them are ignorant. They assume he does not know what he is doing.

When you said "Taiwan" did you mean Hong Kong?

Thus thread should be filled with tons of facts and discussion....or possibly with a bunch of people who don't know the difference between Taiwan and Hong kong....

It's a big deal because we haven't had direct leader to leader communications since the 70s and this could mark a change in white house policy that has gone back to nixon....

The administration of the Jimmy Carter signed the Sino-American Defense treaty in 1979 - the great Ronald Reagan signed off on it when he took office in 1981 - basically agreeing that the country of China would represent all of China's interest in that region.

To get into the mindset of a liberal, you have to think like a pussy, obviously that's harder for some of us than others

It is only the left and Chinese media that is making a big deal. No one else, including Trump, gives a frick.

This one issue, why is it a big deal? Because the liberal idiots on TV tell you it's a big deal doesn't count.

Like I said, I've been both places quite extensively.

It must be similar to traveling from Texas to visit family in Louisiana.

Taiwan isn't a part of China just because PRC says it is. Taiwan has been an independent nation since CKS left the mainland when the commies took over.

China didn't even have control over the island when that happened.

They're making shite up.
