Will never happen but it would be a huge step in correcting our country which is destined for implosion.

Do people not stand for anything anymore? Dems aint dems GOPs arent GOPs. It's all about who is willing to give me the most money and then "yessa masta Ill vote fasta!"

sorry semi-rant over

Or, alternately, the people of New Jersey could rise up and oust Corey Booker for taking big Pharma's side over their interests.

Why wouldn't they do that?

Because very few people are actually fully informed voters (it's kind of a useless thing to invest one's time in) and barring a scandal or economic downturn, incumbents can skate by on apathy and inertia. It's how democratic politics, especially ones of scale, tend to work.

Let anybody donate to anybody and make it all open.

I have no power myself. Some groups I back do. My employer does.

The pharmaceutical industry is probably the largest employer in New Jersey.

Oh. So it's not really a campaign finance issue? People just don't know and don't care? I'm shocked.

Probably. It's shifting because New Jersey sucks. But I think over 10% of all pharma jobs in the U.S. are in Jersey. It used to be over 20%.

I've been screaming for years that corporate and special interest money are the main ingredient that has corrupted our government.

It's not. What has corrupted our government is that voters don't give a shite if their personal Congressman/woman is corrupt. They just care if they have a D or an R after their name.

A red-herring. The gov't is comprised of people and can only be corrupted if those people choose to do corrupt things. The idea that people are corrupted by money is sensible on the face of it, but really holds no water. If I were a congressman, I would not sell out my sacred duty to my constituents for all the tea in china.

The problem we have today is people that go into politics for the express purpose of enriching themselves and gaining power.

Ok, I agree with you to an extent. Yes, we the people need to take back our government and put people in there that aren't influenced. However, with the laws in place as is. Someone not corrupted by special interest will become corrupted very quickly. To think otherwise is very naive.

I agree. However, one with this stance that gets voted in will slowly realize that in order to stay in his/her position they must play the "game" which is to stockpile money for re-election bc if they dont someone else will (most likely the opposition).

I liken it to Baseball and steroids back in the 90s and early 00's. Many of them probably didnt want to take it but since everyone was they felt they had to in order to stay relevant and produce on the level as the players that did take steroids.

People will become corrupted if they are not held accountable for corruption.

I don't vote for Roy Blunt for Senator here in Missouri because he's a bucket of slime (though he has an exceptional staff). I don't have any alternatives because no one runs against him who can unseat him as the Republican candidate and I'm not voting for whatever water head Democrat they throw up against him.

If people were more concerned with ethics than their side winning, this would not be an issue.

Talk about a fickle industry. My BiL just retired from what used to be Schering-Plough; he and my sister moved from Jersey to South Carolina.
