This is exactly what they wanted

They wanted to say they "tried" to repeal Obamacare, but just couldn't, and its time we move onto bigger issues

Translation: We actually want Obamacare to stay to please our corporate overlords, but wanted to make a play to our constituents that we "tried" to repeal it just so they don't get mad at us.

Why can't any see this? The ACA can't survive. Period. All the Ryan bill did was speed up the death of it and tie the Repubs to it.

They (and a lot of posters on this board) missed their chance when Ted Cruz tried to defund Obamacare.

Everyone turned on him, but he was right: once it's in, it can never be stopped.

Why can't you admit this was a Trump failure? He backed it. He said he loved it. He tried to go hard arse on Republicans. And it flopped.

One of the cornerstones of his campaign.

2018 is going to be very difficult for the Republicans as many of their voters sent them to D.C. to kill the ACA.

I supported Cruz when he tried to get it defunded.

We were told its not the hill to die on, lets get a Republican Senate/House/President then we can get rid of it all.

LOL.

I don't blame Trump though. Any candidate would have not been able to get Obamacare repealed. Not even Rand Paul. It's ultimately up to congress and congress has made it clear they want Obamacare to stay.

I think Trump realized this was the best he could get with all the cronies in congress. It was either that or nothing.

It doesn't matter who the president was. Obamacare was going to stay because those in congress who ultimately get to decide want it to stay.

Even Democrats admit the ACA has flaws.

Obama himself said he would be in favor of a different healthcare bill if it was better than the ACA.

How in the world does the GOP base their entire existence on fighting the ACA for 7 years and not have a consensus on how to replace it?

Trumps matra was repeal and replace every single day during election.

Yet, had no plan together.

People bitched and moaned for 7 years about obamacare and had nothing.

Its time for voters to wake up and stop listening to the lies.

Except that they would have moved forward with a vote, and didn't. This fight isn't over.

Then he shouldn't have backed it. Now it just looks bad for him and the Republicans. Doesn't bode well for either of them.

And now he looks like a quitter as well as a loser. The media will never let this be forgotten.

He played this all wrong. And showed very little negotiation skills.

Where does Trump championing this bill fit into your translation?

There was never any actual desire to repeal it. Don't understand why so many can't grasp this.

I pointed this out when Trump announced back in 2015 on this board. The GOP wants Obamacare to stay. And everyone said "NUH UH!!!!!" to me all the way through.

Who was right.
