"Angel Flight" is the call sign for a USAF C-130 carrying a fallen soldier hero.

Flares are used to salute the soldier and resembles angel wings.

Today we memorialize our fallen.

Do they do this for every returning flight with a body or is this a Memorial Day thing? Neat idea but if done all the time seems expensive.

Seems like a lot of flares in the pic no? I have no idea how much they cost and is a drop in the bucket for military budgets, just wondering.

Its not near as expensive as what the soldier in the wooden box had to give, a-hole

Who cares what the expense is if it is honoring a fallen soldier, sailor or Marine. It is the least that can be done?

What if the family wants to the flare salute instead, a-hole?

Then sure go for it, but I'd imagine 90% would rather the check instead.

War is expensive. Things like this help other service members deal with loss, enhancing their effectiveness.

I'm assuming the one downvote came from the Islamist jihadist amongst us?

so if the soldier wanted an array of nuclear explosions set off to honor him if he were to fall, I guess who cares what the expense would be, it would be the least that could be done?

Nice strawman
well to say it's the 'least' we could do and 'who cares how much', I think it's fair to say that they are saying any request should be honored

While a nice image it isn't done for dead military members.

Also, that isn't even a C-130. I can't tell for sure but I think it's a C17 maybe. A 130's engines don't hang down from the wing like this aircrafts.
