California gained an embassy in Russia last weekend, at least in the eyes of those who have promised to seek a statewide vote on secession, nicknamed "Calexit," in 2018. Louis Marinelli, a San Diego resident who is the leader of the group promoting an effort to turn the state into an independent country , organized the Moscow event that was publicized on social media. "We want to start laying the groundwork for a dialogue about an independent California joining the United Nations now," he said in an email Monday.
Let me see if I understand this situation. California, which is pissed that flyover country decided the election, but mainly due to Russia's interference in the election wants to secede from the USA and the first place they choose is Russia. Real life is so much crazier than fiction.

I would love to see Calexit happen. The Democrats would have to abandon their current lunacy in order to survive.

California needs to seriously consider secession and independence. They might do very well as an independent country, because the 49 states of the USA would still use the US military to defend California. Independent Cali would need no national defense expenditures.

They need to consider military tech. Do they assume to keep the pacific fleet and military capabilities belonging to the United States of America?

I don't think the US is willing to leave all these capabilities and R&Ds fate up to the decision of another nation, especially one so fond of our enemies

We have military bases in friendly (and some not so friendly) countries all over the world. We could lease our current bases in California or keep them as part of the secession agreement.

Exactly, they wouldn't win another national election in my lifetime.

I cannot emphasize enough how much I would love to see the liberals in California vote in favor of national separation. For the obvious reasons of how much politically better off America would be without the leftist albatross of California of course, but also for the greatest of all ironies to see the left suddenly validate the principle of self determination and secession after previously arguing that it was totally invalid and illegitimate, particularly when they engage in discussions of the outbreak of Civil War hostilities and the legitimacy of Confederate withdrawal.

Only if a law is passed in the other 49 states that Californians won't be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and sponge off the American taxpayers like many immigrants do now.
