Mexico being a failed Narco state is their fault solely. I do feel bad for their citizens that live in fear of the cartels. But, I don't see anyone lifting a finger to do anything, except fight the legal battles of people being deported from the U.S.

I suspect that many Mexican folk, wink and nod and take the drug money that the stupid 'Gringos' pay for their sickness. So do the Government Authorities who realize that without that income...they will suffer blame for their Citizen's prosperity.

It's is said that "money is the mother's milk of politics", and that is true, in one sense. Because enough money can either buy Politicians, Civil Authorities and powerful Individuals who would intellectually challenge their dominance...or they can buy ruthless rogues who will threaten/kill any who become legit opposition.

To the degree that drug money/culture is tolerated, Society ultimately suffers. Trump is right to lock that Border down, and cut off the Cartel's influence down there. No other way really. Civil War nws.

Times change, Bh. I'm not sure we still are - or can afford to be - the "us" that you allude to. The basic argument being one of either having a door on your home...or not. The door being to monitor and discern who is knocking, before welcoming them in.

Re making Mexico more accountable...impossible, while the Cartels have more money to affect Politics - and more so, the Civil Authority - than does the basic economy/working folk down there. As long as that is the scenario, the status quo remains. It's like expecting NK to become more accountable, while Fatboy runs the show. Won't happen. He is sick, and evil. So are the Cartels. "Accountability" will be hammered.

Absolutely, TG. High tech makes ID tamper proof. And passing simple Laws like "Kate's Law" with substantial MANDATORY FEDERAL time for any felon who comes back across the Border will throw a wrench in the whole return machine. It either Rule of Law...or virulent growth toward anarchy of the which is now manifest across our Border.

Sad but true. It may be merciful to take in individuals who are problematic in many ways...but there will be negative consequences on the folk who open their door. Think Europe, and their Immigration problem. Pour cold water in hot...and you get lukewarm.
