new Orleans is a shithole.
Ilove reading thoughtful and constructive comments.
Constructive.... New Orleans doesn't have to remain a shithole...
But until attitudes change there, it will only sink deeper and deeper into the shithole.

Yep.
He laid her out with one punch; it's unbelievable she wasn't seriously injured.
I'm not sure they even have the suspects in custody yet.

I completely agree with you. It's probably harder to riot and chance being arrested when you have a good job and can't miss work or have a criminal record. But....

I don't think you have to worry about that around here lol

You stumbled upon a good comparison here. Anyone visiting New Orleans is willingly putting themselves in harm's way. We need to be getting the word out and let that garbage dump of a city fall by the wayside.

Irrational?
IF a kid comes up and trips me, are all kids suddenly horrible? How can I make that connection off one interaction? Thats incredibly dumb, LAZY, and dangerous.

A new Mayor, Chief or hiring a thousand police officers will not temper these urban terrorists.
What is needed is a vigilante movement.
How comforting it would be if the headline read:
4 vermin found leaking on Bienville St from holes in the brain housing group...

Well, NO can either jail the Thugs and flood the Quarter with Cops who preemptively Profile and latch on to obvious threats...or kiss tourism goodbye.
I was planning to take my great granddaughter to the Aquarium...but I'm having to reassess.

That's a crazy spot for that attack....right next to some big, high traffic parking lots and a long way to flee back into project-land.

StrongSafety,
It's not just one interaction.
New Orleans (along with St. Louis, Detroit, and Baltimore) has become one of the top 4 most dangerous cities to visit.
The crime stats are available; look 'em up.
Rather than denying the problem, be a part of the solution.

Reminds me of the knock-out game that was popular a few years ago by the urban youths.

If the man dies, they are looking at 1st degree murder under La. law.
First degree murder is the killing of a human being when the offender has specific intent to kill or to inflict great bodily harm and is engaged in the perpetration or attempted perpetration of simple robbery.
The hoodie guy demonstrated the specific intent to inflict great bodily harm on the man while perpetrating simple robbery.

As it turns out, they were here for religious meetings
Yeah, if I were someone looking for a place to have a convention or place to host my company or affiliation meetings, This would not be a good sign to me, especially as a safe place for my people to go to. This shite is going to rally hurt New Orleans if they don't start cracking down and getting serious on a city level.
quote:
The victims are Tim Byrne and James Curran, information technology staff members for the Unitarian Universalist Association, a liberal religious group that was in town for its annual meeting. Association spokeswoman Rachel Walden said Curran was treated and released following Saturday's attack, but Byrne remained hospitalized Monday. In New Orleans on Sunday, association president Susan Frederick-Gray told meeting participants about the violent mugging and described Byrne's condition as serious. "I and a number of senior staff were with Tim in the hospital last night and others, including our chaplains, are with him now," Frederick-Gray said. "Tim’s husband is en route to New Orleans from Boston. Our ... staff are profoundly shocked and filled with concern for their colleagues."

Good info, thanks! Not familiar with LA law, would death penalty apply and does LA still have death penalty? MD does not.

How compassionate from someone who apparently thinks himself one level from sainthood!
