no, we should de-regulate and not try to tax every possible movement a person or business makes...

I agree, but that's not likely to happen anytime soon, and I don't want to keep restricting things in the mean time.

So, there should be no criminal laws? Making murder, theft, or rape a crime is legislating morals. Sorry, I know this board is full of no-government, anarchist libertardians (most of which are registered and vote R), but most laws have a moral backing.

Those crimes harm victims. They shouldn't be illegal because they are immoral. They should be illegal because they harm or injure otherwise innocents. Some guy smoking a blunt on his back porch has ZERO effect on me.

I'm not anti-legalization, I was just countering the point that its a smaller government issue

Let's re-institute the 18th amendment while we're at it... Too many people get drunk

I agree. Let's make it illegal to play bingo...or do anything that someone else doesn't like. We just don't have enough limits on living.

We can get mayor Bloomberg and Ms. Feinstein to give us some more ideas.

Oh, so it is only victimless crimes like prostitution, gambling, underage drinking, driving while drinking, consensual sex with a minor, public nudity, and obscenity laws. That kind of stuff that legislates morals should be legal. Vegas and San Francisco everywhere.

I don't think consensual sex with a minor is necessarily a victimless crime.

I do consider drug use to be something that should be legal. The only morals I care about are physical and property crimes.

This is an emotional discussion. Logic, intelligence, and critical thinking should not be allowed.
BTW...interesting points.

Should be legal. It's their bodies. I may think it's disgusting, but it's not my place to tell someone what to do with their own body.

underage drinking

A minor can drink under supervision already in many states. Louisiana is one of them.

quote:

driving while drinking

Poses a threat to innocents. This is not victimless.

quote:

consensual sex with a minor

Taking advantage of someone not of consenting age is not victimless. It's fricking rape jackass.

quote:

public nudity, and obscenity laws

It's not victimless in areas where it poses a health risk to innocents (nude in a grocery store near food) nor is it victimless around minors. Anywhere else, if you don't want to see nude people then leave...

love the spirit and balls to introduce this bill. but it will get SMASHED.

i imagine alabama will be one of the last states to legalize any type of marijuana/hemp.

The Alabama Taliban is insane.

It is illegal in alabama for a restaurant to have liquor visible to the public outside the facility.

19 yr old boyfriend has consensual sex with his 16 year old girlfriend = rape

Good to know.

You are pretending that all minors are 16? Sex with a minor has a whole lot of different possibilities.

First, there is no victim when someone is arrested for drunk driving. It "poses a threat," as you said. Well, so does drug use and prostitution. Some things pose threats.

I'm also glad you social liberals don't run my state. Fornicting in the streets, gambling, and whoring. Sounds like a utopia.

I also disagree that those are victimless. The person is the victim, and that is why the state has the power to prevent this stuff. "Doesn't hurt" me attitude is no way to build a republic.

You are pretending that all consensual sex with minors is rape or there is a victim?

Gambling is another great example of a "victimless" crime. There is plenty of evidence to show that gambling affects the poor of the locale the most. Hey, not my problem? Some things are just good public policy for a healthy republic.
