At some point this crap will be halted and some folks are going to have a tough time adjusting. This is an example outcome Shapiro always harps on potential for tyranny in government and the need for 2nd amendment.

Man, at Tech you didn't ever want a take home test because it was a license for the prof to really shaft you.

wonder if you can make a shaft test in queer studies

They didn't just want a take home exam but they also wanted time to prepare.

I hate to harp on this because it's so cliche and overused, but here it truly is applicable. This is the product of a society that for the last 30 years or so has neglected to teach children about the reality of inequality, winners, losers and the process of self-improvement.

All human beings are not equal. All human beings in certain societies are, in theory, equal under the law. That does not mean that my athletic skills are equivalent to those of Lebron James. He will beat me every time in a pickup game precisely because we are NOT equivalent on a basketball court, and the same realities are why I will beat him every time in a spelling bee.

Some are inherently more intelligent than others. Some people, no matter how hard they study, will never succeed in certain academic settings. Some people can succeed but will never be as good as others in the same setting.

To some degree we can all improve. I can practice basketball long enough that I will be better than I was, but only to a point. I Will still never be an NBA player. Likewise, MOST cognitively intact people can study hard enough to graduate high school but many cannot withstand the rigors of higher education. Among those who can, some will never do as well as others. The process of self-improvement should be encouraged but with the caveat that we all have a ceiling in every area.

However, what we've instead done is attempted to pursued our youth that you can be anything you want to be if you work hard enough...and then remove all incentive for them to work hard by equating everyone and taking measures to ensure those who area in inferior in a given area aren't forced to deal with that reality. So you combine the lie of equality with self-defeating ideologies that don't promote the improvement required to achieve the supposed equality. It's complete and total nonsense.

Take home exams in engineering sucked. They always took way more time than what it would take to prepare for an in class exam.

I've had the "privilege" of managing some of these folks. I had to terminate a person who not only no showed work numerous times but would also come in late still drunk from the night before.

After firing her, her mom called me to bitch me out letting me know I didn't understand her situation. I could delve way deeper into this but my point is that at some point you have to enter the real world and start accepting responsibility.

To be honest at this point if I had a genie, one of my wishes would be to become a college professor at Berkeley with absolute impunity. That would be one of my 3 wishes. I would just love trample over these people and actually teach them things that aren't bullshite.

I did some college teaching, the last thing you would want from me = was a take home or open book exam. Luckily I was never able to get a full time teaching job.

seems like they have a lot in common with boomers.. not taking responsibility for their frick ups. they fricked up not getting a $9/hour job and instead went into debt to attend college.. while their parents and grandparents wrecked a once great country

I can’t conceive even the thought of doing this in college.

ETA: Christ come to think of it I was classified with a disability (severe crohn’s) and my professor still wanted to fail me for missed days.

Meanwhile a friend of mine is taking triple block exams at a Caribbean medschool, because the school is cutting no slack even though the island was hit by two cat 5 hurricanes.

I would have simply said if you don't take the test you fail the class. Any other questions or concerns you have before you flunk out of school?
